Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant search Cookwala recipes, dry-run them against a device, and check safe temperature bands, mandates and SMS.

What it does
A read-only, stdio MCP server for the Cookwala recipe catalog. It exposes fourteen tools, six resources and three prompts for searching and reading recipes, dry-running a recipe against a device, checking safe temperature bands, agent mandates and humanitarian SMS, and looking recipes up on fifi.cooking. It reads the static catalog, verifies every hash, caches locally and can work offline after the first run. It never starts cooking.
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to look up Cookwala recipes, preview how a recipe would run on a device, or check safety bands, mandates and SMS information. Worth adding if you want recipe lookup and dry-run checks inside an MCP-capable desktop client.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio via npx from the npm package @cookwala/mcp, requiring Node 20 or newer. Optional environment variables: COOKWALA_BASE_URL for a catalog origin or local built-site directory, COOKWALA_CACHE_DIR for the cache location, COOKWALA_LANG for default language, and COOKWALA_OFFLINE set to 1 to serve only from cache. Desktop only; no authentication declared.
Before you install
Read-only and it never starts cooking, so it does not write, send or delete data. It fetches the catalog from a remote origin by default, so catalog requests leave the machine unless COOKWALA_OFFLINE is set. V0 recipes are described, not machine-verified, so treat their details as unverified.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Cookwala in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
