Overview

AI-generated overview

Fronts the InstaBids home-services marketplace, letting an assistant explain how it works, check a ZIP, and start a private job draft for contractor bids.

What you can do
  • Explain the InstaBids marketplace and how contractors join
  • Get bid-comparison checklists and trade-specific intake questions and photo asks
  • Check whether a five-digit US ZIP can post a job and list nearby town pages
  • Read sourced local permit facts with the date each rule was checked
  • Create a private job draft from a description and ZIP, returning a one-hour link for the homeowner
  • Check a job's stage and bid count from a status handle
When to use it
Useful when a homeowner or property manager asks an assistant for help planning a home repair or improvement in the US and wants written contractor quotes on one scope, or wants to check ZIP coverage, permit rules or what to compare in a bid before posting.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint at instabids.ai; no package, environment variable or header is declared. The public tools need no sign-in, but private tools require an InstaBids homeowner sign-in, and the homeowner must open the returned link in their own browser.
Before you install
start_job writes a private draft and returns a one-hour link; nothing reaches contractors until the homeowner confirms their email and sends it themselves. job_status exposes only stage, bid count and last change, not bid amounts or contractor names. Permit facts are sourced but may be unpublished for some areas, so local requirements should be confirmed.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open InstaBids in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/ai.instabids%2Finstabids/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

How InstaBids works

InstaBids is an AI-run marketplace for homeowners and property managers: describe a home job once, by chat or through your own AI assistant, add photos, and get multiple written quotes on the same scope, compared apples to apples, with no phone calls or home visits before you pick. Learn the homeowner steps, homeowner cost and contact privacy.

Takes no parameters.

bid_checklist

Bid comparison checklist

Get six items to compare in a home-project bid and optional trade-specific preparation. Omit trade for the general checklist; the answer's trade is then null. The answer includes sourceUrl.

check_service_area

Check a ZIP before posting

Every US ZIP can post a job. Homeowners anywhere in the US can post a job; once you send it, InstaBids finds contractors to bid on it. Returns guidance and whether the input is a US ZIP, plus nearby town pages. Get the answer for a five-digit ZIP, and list towns with an InstaBids town page for a five-digit ZIP.

permit_facts

Published local permit facts

Read sourced local permit facts, with the date each rule was checked; unpublished rules get guidance to ask your bidder and confirm local requirements. Homeowners anywhere in the US can post a job; once you send it, InstaBids finds contractors to bid on it.

start_job

Start a draft job

Use this when a homeowner wants contractor bids on a home repair or improvement job in the US. Creates a private draft from their description and five-digit ZIP and returns a one-hour link for the homeowner to open. Nothing reaches a contractor until the homeowner confirms their email and sends it. Do not include names, phone numbers, emails or street addresses. Do not use for emergencies. Ask the homeowner, one short question at a time and only for what is missing, what needs doing, where in the home, rough size or count, when it is needed and who supplies materials, then put the answers in the message. For a new job, call start_job before answer_intake, then prepare_publish after the intake is ready; for other writes, read the previous reply before calling and follow the returned next step afterward, using only tools listed by this server. Only the homeowner tap sends anything to contractors. If anyone asks, say you are an AI assistant. fill what you can; everything else can come later. Start with the homeowner’s description, trade and ZIP, plus a photo or a good description. Optional: photos, a description or transcript of a 20–60 s walk clip, timing and the job type’s must-haves from intake_templates. Never invent answers. ZIP only; never send a street address or a price. Nothing reaches contractors before the homeowner sends the card.

job_status

Check a draft job

Use this after start_job returned a statusHandle, to see whether the homeowner has sent the job and how many bids have arrived. Returns only the stage (draft, sent, collecting_bids, picked, closed or expired), the bid count and when it last changed. Never returns bid amounts, contractor names or the job text. The handle works for 7 days. Stage expired means the one-hour link lapsed before the homeowner opened it: start again with start_job. Read-only.

How contractors join InstaBids

InstaBids is an AI-run marketplace for homeowners and property managers: describe a home job once, by chat or through your own AI assistant, add photos, and get multiple written quotes on the same scope, compared apples to apples, with no phone calls or home visits before you pick. Get the contractor join steps, availability, alias privacy, job-texts status and links to join or ask for text alerts. Joining asks only for your business details. Hand over the links so the contractor signs up and asks for texts themselves; this tool creates no account and sends no text.
