Overview

AI-generated overview

Remote MCP server that maps topic prerequisites, estimates per-skill mastery and recommends what a learner should study next.

What you can do
  • Build a validated prerequisite graph from topics and dependencies, with cycle detection and gap flags
  • Estimate per-skill mastery across the graph from learner responses using BKT and Elo
  • Recommend the next topic a learner is ready for and explain the reasoning with mastery evidence
  • Diagnose prerequisite gaps blocking a target topic and return a remediation path
  • Generate a mastery-aware sequence from the current state to a goal, and rate item and learner difficulty on one Elo scale
When to use it
Useful for tutoring, curriculum or learning-platform work where an assistant must decide what a learner should study next, find gaps blocking a goal, or order remediation steps from a syllabus with prerequisites.
Requirements
A remote Streamable HTTP endpoint; nothing to install. OAuth 2.1 sign-in with PKCE and dynamic client registration is required, so the client opens a sign-in page on first use. Works with OAuth-aware clients such as VS Code/GitHub Copilot, Claude connectors and Claude Code.
Before you install
Requires an OAuth sign-in to a third-party service, so learner data such as responses and mastery estimates is sent to that service. Recommendations and mastery estimates are model-based and should be reviewed rather than treated as authoritative assessments.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Mastery Pathing in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/ai.saifs%2Fmastery-pathing/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

Mastery Pathing

The “what should this learner study next?” engine: a validated prerequisite graph, per-skill mastery (Bayesian Knowledge Tracing / Elo), and a knowledge-frontier recommendation. Diagnoses the gaps blocking a goal and returns a mastery-aware sequence from the current state to that goal.

Install

VS Code / GitHub Copilot

Add to .vscode/mcp.json (workspace) or your user mcp.json:

json
{  "servers": {    "saifs-mastery-pathing": {      "type": "http",      "url": "https://mastery-pathing-mcp.saifs.ai/mcp"    }  }}

Then start the server from the MCP view and sign in when prompted.

Claude (claude.ai, Desktop)

Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and paste:

https://mastery-pathing-mcp.saifs.ai/mcp

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add --transport http saifs-mastery-pathing https://mastery-pathing-mcp.saifs.ai/mcp

Any other MCP client

Point it at https://mastery-pathing-mcp.saifs.ai/mcp using the Streamable HTTP transport. The server returns 401 with a WWW-Authenticate: Bearer … resource_metadata=… challenge, so OAuth-aware clients sign in automatically.

Tools

ToolWhat it does
build_knowledge_graphValidated prerequisite DAG from topics and dependencies (cycle detection, gap flags).
estimate_masteryPer-skill mastery via BKT / Elo across the graph from learner responses.
next_best_topicKnowledge frontier: what the learner is ready to learn now (prerequisites met, not yet mastered).
diagnose_gapsPrerequisite gaps blocking a target topic, plus a remediation path.
optimal_sequenceTopological, mastery-aware path from the current state to a goal.
rate_difficultyElo-based item and learner ratings on one scale.
explain_recommendationWhy this topic next, with mastery evidence.

Example prompts

  • “Here’s our syllabus with prerequisites. What should this student study next?”
  • “They want to reach quadratic equations. Which gaps are blocking that, and in what order should we remediate?”
  • “Build a learning sequence from their current mastery to the chapter on recursion.”
