Overview

AI-generated overview

Remote MCP server for Washington mountain-pass and floating-bridge conditions plus short narrated road-trip stories about places along the state's highways.

What you can do
  • Check whether one pass or the I-90 or SR 520 floating bridge is open, with chain rules and check time
  • List all Washington passes at once, with verdicts for the main four and WSDOT's wording for others
  • Read Sal's story for a named place or story id, or list stories along a highway stretch in road order
  • Find up to three stories near a town, landmark or highway
  • Save 1 to 50 stories to a WithBy next-drive list and read that list back in road order
When to use it
Useful when planning or taking a winter drive across Washington's passes and wanting current open, chains or closed status, or when you want short stories about towns and landmarks along a specific highway stretch.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; nothing installs locally. The pass and story lookup tools need no account. The save and next-drive list tools require a WithBy account, and the host opens WithBy's sign-in page the first time one is used.
Before you install
The save and next-drive tools write to your WithBy account and need you to authorize the agent's access; you can disconnect from your WithBy profile. Coverage is limited to Washington's highways, and the server does not navigate or book. Stories are AI-generated narration and the server's code is not public.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open WithBy in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/ai.withby%2Fwithby/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

WithBy

Washington's mountain-pass conditions, checked every few minutes, and hundreds of short stories about the places along the road, told by Sal, WithBy's narrator.

This repository connects AI agents to WithBy through WithBy's own remote MCP server, https://withby.ai/mcp. It is a plugin for Cursor and Claude Code and an extension for Gemini CLI. Nothing installs or runs on your computer: the tools come from the server.

What it does

WithBy checks Washington's mountain passes every few minutes and judges each direction of Snoqualmie, Stevens, White and Blewett passes: open, chains or closed, with the time it looked. For 12 other passes and the I-90 and SR 520 floating bridges it gives WSDOT's own words.

It has hundreds of short stories about the places along the state's highways, told by Sal, WithBy's road-trip narrator. Ask whether a pass is open, ask for a story about a place, hear what Sal knows near a town or along a stretch of highway, and save the stories you want him to tell you on your next drive. WithBy covers Washington's highways today and says so when you ask about somewhere else.

The server

WithBy's MCP server is hosted at https://withby.ai/mcp (streamable HTTP; registry name ai.withby/withby). The server's code is not public. This repository holds the client plugin configuration for Cursor, Claude Code and Gemini CLI, and it is the place to report issues or ask questions about the WithBy connector. You can also write to [email protected].

Signing in

The tools marked "yes" need a WithBy account. The first time you use one, your agent opens WithBy's sign-in page, and you choose whether to let it use your account. The other tools work without signing in. You can disconnect at any time from your WithBy profile.

pass_status

Pass status

Use this when someone asks whether a mountain pass or the I-90 or SR 520 floating bridge is open, what the restrictions or chain rules are, or how long the crossing takes. Answers for Snoqualmie, Stevens, White and Blewett passes with WithBy's verdict for each direction and the crossing time against the usual, for the two bridges with their crossing times and alerts, and for 12 other passes with WSDOT's words. Covers Washington's mountain passes in depth, and the passes on the roads out of it, in their agency's words. Every answer carries the time WithBy checked and the agency's own report time. Not for navigation or bookings.

Parameterspassrequired

passes_now

Mountain passes now

Use this when someone asks about mountain passes in general, which passes are open, or wants the whole list: Washington's mountain passes in depth, and the passes on the roads out of it. Gives WithBy's verdict for Snoqualmie, Stevens, White and Blewett passes in one line each, then 12 other passes in WSDOT's words, seasonal closures marked, then the passes on the way out, each in its agency's words, with the time WithBy checked. Not for navigation or bookings.

Takes no parameters.

story

Story along the road

Use this when someone asks for a story about a place, landmark, or town along Washington's highways, or asks to hear what Sal knows about a specific location or story by id. Gives Sal's story, place and stretch, running time, and Wikipedia / source credit; Sal is WithBy's AI-generated narrator voice. Not for navigation, bookings, or places outside Washington.

Parametersstoryrequired

stretch_stories

Stories on a highway stretch

Use this when someone asks what stories Sal has along a highway or stretch of road in Washington (e.g. "SR 520 east", "I-90 west from Seattle", or stretch id "sr520-03"). Gives the stories on that stretch in driving order with their durations and total time. Not for navigation, bookings, or roads outside Washington.

Parametersdirstretchrequired

stories_near

Stories near a place

Use this when someone asks what stories Sal has near a town, city, landmark, or highway in Washington (e.g. "North Bend", "Snoqualmie Falls", "I-90"). Gives up to 3 nearby stories or nearest covered towns. Not for navigation, bookings, or places outside Washington.

Parametersplacerequired

save_for_drive

Save stories for my next drive

Use this when someone wants Sal, WithBy's AI-generated narrator voice, to tell particular stories on their next drive: it adds 1 to 50 stories, by the ids the story, stretch and nearby-stories answers give, to their WithBy next-drive list, the same list as Save for my drive on withby.ai. Needs their WithBy account. Not for navigation, bookings or places outside Washington.

Parametersstory_idsrequired

my_next_drive

My next-drive list

Use this when someone asks which stories they saved for their next drive, or what Sal will tell first. Lists their WithBy next-drive list in road order with each story's length. Needs their WithBy account. Not for navigation or bookings.

Takes no parameters.
