Overview

AI-generated overview

Connects an AI assistant to a letX account so it can find LaTeX templates, create and edit projects, and compile them to PDF.

What you can do
  • Search and inspect LaTeX templates, including a deep-research style search and fetch pair
  • List projects and their files, and read the text of a project document
  • Create projects from LaTeX files or from a template
  • Create or replace project documents, keeping the previous version in history
  • Compile LaTeX from the conversation or an existing project, and set the TeX engine (pdflatex, xelatex, lualatex)
  • Report compile errors by file and line so the assistant can fix them
When to use it
Useful when you write or maintain LaTeX documents in letX and want the assistant to draft, edit and compile them in the conversation, or to start a new paper, report or CV from a template without leaving the chat.
Requirements
A letX account and OAuth 2.1 sign-in approved in the browser on first connection. The remote endpoint is reached over streamable HTTP; no local runtime or environment variables are needed. Using letX from an AI app is part of letX's paid plans, with a 7-day trial for free accounts in Claude.
Before you install
The assistant can create projects, replace project files and start builds, so edits to existing documents should be reviewed; replaced files stay in project history. Compile results include log errors and a PDF link valid for one hour. Tool arguments such as file contents and project ids are sent to letX, though the conversation itself is not. Access can be revoked under Settings, Connected apps.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open LetX in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/app.letx%2Fletx/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

letX

letX is a collaborative LaTeX editor. This plugin connects your AI assistant to your letX account, so you can work on LaTeX documents from the conversation: find a template, start a project, read and edit its files, and compile it to PDF, with the LaTeX errors reported by file and line so they can be fixed.

What it includes

  • The letX MCP server at https://api.letx.app/mcp. You sign in with your letX account (OAuth 2.1) and approve what the assistant may do: read letX's templates, read and edit your projects, and compile them. You can disconnect it at any time in letX under Settings, Connected apps.
  • Two skills:
    • compile-and-fix: compile LaTeX from the conversation or a letX project, and fix the errors it reports until the document builds.
    • start-from-template: find a template in letX's library and start a project from it.

Connect from other MCP clients

The server is also in the MCP Registry as app.letx/letx. Any client can reach it at https://api.letx.app/mcp (streamable HTTP). The first connection opens letX in your browser to sign in and approve access.

  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http letx https://api.letx.app/mcp
  • Codex CLI: codex mcp add letx --url https://api.letx.app/mcp, then approve in the browser tab it opens. If Codex later says it is not signed in, run codex mcp login letx.
  • Other clients that support remote MCP servers with OAuth: add https://api.letx.app/mcp as a remote server in their MCP settings.

What it sends and receives

The plugin runs no code on your machine and connects to nothing but the letX MCP server above. When the assistant calls a tool, letX receives that call's arguments (for example the file it writes or the project it compiles) and returns the result: project names and ids, file lists, the text of the files it reads, template details, compile results with the errors from the log, and a link that opens the PDF for an hour. letX does not receive your conversation. The details are in the privacy policy.

Requirements

A letX account. Using letX from an AI app is part of letX's paid plans, and in Claude a free account can try it for 7 days from its first connection. Plans are described at https://letx.app/pricing/.
