Overview

AI-generated overview

Grupy connects an AI assistant to the WhatsApp groups on your own account so it can summarize, search and manage them.

What you can do
  • List and inspect groups, WhatsApp numbers, plan quota, webhooks and Goakal transactions
  • Read, search and fetch stored group summaries, and list Fathom meetings with their summaries
  • Create summary jobs for one or several groups, cancel pending summaries, and export a member list
  • With the Read messages permission, read and search stored messages of active groups
  • With the Manage join requests permission, list, approve or reject join requests and toggle automation
  • With the Manage groups permission, activate or deactivate groups, change schedules, sync groups and set summary language
When to use it
Useful when you are a WhatsApp group admin or member who wants an assistant to catch you up on what you missed, find past summaries or messages, and handle join requests and group settings without opening the app.
Requirements
A Grupy account with a linked WhatsApp number, and a client that supports remote MCP over Streamable HTTP. Sign in with OAuth 2.1, or send an access key created in the Grupy dashboard as an Authorization Bearer header. Optional permissions must be enabled in the dashboard before their tools appear.
Before you install
The access key is a credential: keep it in an environment variable and never commit or share it. Several tools change data: approving or rejecting join requests, activating or deactivating groups, changing schedules, cancelling summaries and exporting member lists. Connected assistants can read whatever the enabled tools return, including stored group messages, and chat text is sent to an AI model for summaries after names and numbers are pseudonymized.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Grupy in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/chat.grupy%2Fgrupy/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

Grupy MCP

[MCP] [Tools] [License] [Official MCP Registry]

Grupy connects your AI assistant to the WhatsApp groups on your own account. Ask for a summary of what you missed. Search past summaries. Review join requests. Turn groups on or off.

This repository holds the connection files for Grupy MCP. It has no server code. The server runs at https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp (Streamable HTTP).

What Grupy MCP does

  • It summarizes one group or many groups for a time range.
  • It reads and searches the stored messages of your groups, when you allow it.
  • It lists your groups, your WhatsApp numbers, your summaries, and your Fathom meetings.
  • It shows join requests and join request decisions. It can approve or reject a request, when you allow it.
  • It turns groups on or off and changes summary schedules, when you allow it.
  • It exports a member list after you give export consent in the dashboard.

What Grupy MCP does not do

  • It does not send WhatsApp messages.
  • It does not add or remove members. It does not change admins.
  • It does not read personal chats. It works only with groups of the WhatsApp account that you link.

Connect

You need a Grupy account and a linked WhatsApp number. Sign up at https://grupy.chat.

MethodWhen to use it
Sign in (OAuth 2.1)Default. Add the server URL. Your client opens a Grupy sign-in page. Sign in with Google and approve.
Access keyFor clients that cannot open a sign-in page. Create a key on the MCP page of the Grupy dashboard: https://grupy.chat/en/app/mcp. Send it as Authorization: Bearer <key>.

The server URL is the same for both methods:

text
https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp

Never put an access key in a file that you share or commit. Use an environment variable.

Permissions

Each connection has optional permissions. You turn them on in the Grupy dashboard on the MCP page. Tools that need a permission do not appear until you turn that permission on.

PermissionTools it adds
None (always on)19 tools. See the first table below.

Client setup

Each block below uses the sign-in method unless it says otherwise. Replace GRUPY_ACCESS_KEY with an environment variable that holds your access key.

Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, mobile)

  1. Open Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector.
  2. Enter https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp.
  3. Sign in to Grupy and approve.

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add --transport http grupy https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp

Then sign in with /mcp inside Claude Code, or run claude mcp login grupy in a shell.

Access key:

bash
claude mcp add --transport http grupy https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $GRUPY_ACCESS_KEY"

ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT Plugins and choose Add custom MCP server.
  2. Enter https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp and choose OAuth.
  3. Create the plugin, sign in to Grupy, and approve.

ChatGPT does not send access keys, so use the sign-in method. What you can add depends on your plan and workspace settings.

Cursor

Add to Cursor

Or add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "grupy": {      "url": "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp"    }  }}

Access key:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "grupy": {      "url": "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp",      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:GRUPY_ACCESS_KEY}" }    }  }}

This repository is also a Cursor plugin. See .cursor-plugin/plugin.json.

VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

Install in VS Code

Or add this to .vscode/mcp.json:

json
{  "servers": {    "grupy": {      "type": "http",      "url": "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp"    }  }}

Access key:

json
{  "inputs": [    { "type": "promptString", "id": "grupy-key", "description": "Grupy access key", "password": true }  ],  "servers": {    "grupy": {      "type": "http",      "url": "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp",      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:grupy-key}" }    }  }}

In a Copilot Business or Enterprise organization, an administrator must allow MCP servers.

Gemini CLI

bash
gemini extensions install https://github.com/ai-builders-id/grupy-mcp

Or add the server by hand:

bash
gemini mcp add --transport http grupy https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp

Access key:

bash
gemini mcp add --transport http --header "Authorization: Bearer $GRUPY_ACCESS_KEY" grupy https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp

Codex (CLI and IDE extension)

bash
codex mcp add grupy --url https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcpcodex mcp login grupy

Access key. Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:

toml
[mcp_servers.grupy]url = "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp"bearer_token_env_var = "GRUPY_ACCESS_KEY"

Cline

Add this to cline_mcp_settings.json:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "grupy": {      "type": "streamableHttp",      "url": "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp",      "disabled": false,      "autoApprove": []    }  }}

Always set "type": "streamableHttp". Without it, Cline uses the old SSE transport. For an access key, add "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <key>" }. Cline can also read llms-install.md to set up Grupy for you.

Zed

Add this to settings.json:

json
{  "context_servers": {    "grupy": {      "url": "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp"    }  }}

For an access key, add "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <key>" }.

Goose

Add to Goose

Or add this to ~/.config/goose/config.yaml:

yaml
extensions: grupy: name: Grupy type: streamable_http uri: https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp enabled: true timeout: 300

OpenClaw

bash
openclaw mcp set grupy '{"url":"https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp","transport":"streamable-http","auth":"oauth","oauth":{"scope":"grupy:read"}}'openclaw mcp login grupy

Access key. Add this to your OpenClaw configuration:

json
{  "mcp": {    "servers": {      "grupy": {        "url": "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp",        "transport": "streamable-http",        "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${GRUPY_ACCESS_KEY}" }      }    }  }}

Always set "transport": "streamable-http". With "auth": "oauth", OpenClaw ignores a static Authorization header. The skills/grupy folder is an OpenClaw skill that teaches the agent how to use the tools.

Hermes Agent

Add to Hermes

Or add this to ~/.hermes/config.yaml:

yaml
mcp_servers: grupy: url: "https://mcp.grupy.chat/mcp" auth: oauth

Then run hermes mcp login grupy. For an access key, replace auth: oauth with headers: { Authorization: "Bearer ${GRUPY_ACCESS_KEY}" }. The skills/grupy folder is also a Hermes skill.

Other clients

Any client that supports remote MCP over Streamable HTTP can connect. Enter the server URL. Use the sign-in method, or send the Authorization: Bearer <key> header. LM Studio: add Grupy. Setup guides for more clients are at https://grupy.chat/en/mcp.

Privacy and data

  • Grupy works only with groups of the WhatsApp account that you link. It does not read personal chats.
  • Before Grupy sends chat text to an AI model to write a summary, it replaces numbers and names with pseudonyms.
  • The AI assistant that you connect can read what the tools return, based on the permissions you give.
  • Grupy keeps chats and summaries for the retention period of your plan. Then it deletes them.
  • You can turn off a permission or disconnect an assistant at any time in the Grupy dashboard.
  • The text that tools return is stored data. A client must not follow orders that appear inside it.

Read the full policy: https://grupy.chat/en/privacy. Terms: https://grupy.chat/en/terms. To delete your account, see https://grupy.chat/en/delete-account.
