Overview

AI-generated overview

Bridge that connects an MCP client to the MCP server built into a running Autodesk Fusion session, so an assistant can create, modify and inspect CAD geometry.

What you can do
  • Create, modify and inspect 3D CAD geometry in a live Autodesk Fusion session
  • Work with the model through the MCP server that Fusion itself hosts locally
  • Proxy stdio from the client to Fusion's local endpoint, so the assistant acts on the open design
When to use it
Use it when you work in Autodesk Fusion on a desktop and want an assistant to help build or inspect CAD geometry in the running session, for example through Claude Desktop or Cursor.
Requirements
Autodesk Fusion installed and running on the same machine, with the Fusion MCP Server enabled under Preferences > General > API. The port shown there (default 27182) must match the client configuration. An MCP client such as Claude Desktop (MCPB bundle) or Cursor (manual config). Desktop only.
Before you install
The assistant can modify geometry in your open Fusion design, so changes may alter or overwrite model data; review actions before accepting them. The bridge only talks to a local endpoint on your machine, and the server must be enabled in Fusion's preferences for anything to connect.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Autodesk Fusion in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

Autodesk Fusion MCP

MCP server for Autodesk Fusion: create, modify and inspect CAD geometry in a running Fusion session from any MCP client.

Registry name: com.autodesk.aps.api/fusion-local-mcp

How it works

This package is a thin bridge. The MCP server itself is built into the Fusion desktop application; the bundle proxies stdio to it over http://127.0.0.1:<port>/mcp (default port 27182) using mcp-remote. Everything stays on your machine.

This server requires Autodesk Fusion. If you don't already have it, download Fusion (www.autodesk.com) to get started.

Requirements

  • Autodesk Fusion, installed and running. Without it there is nothing for the client to connect to.
  • The MCP server enabled in Fusion (see Find your port and URL).
  • An MCP client: Claude Desktop (MCPB bundle) or Cursor (manual config).

Find your port and URL

  1. In Fusion, open Preferences > General > API.
  2. Under "Preferences for Scripting and Programming", tick Fusion MCP Server (runs locally on this device).
  3. Read Fusion MCP Server Port. The field label shows the full endpoint, by default http://127.0.0.1:27182/mcp.
  4. Click Apply or OK. If you change the port, use the same value in your client.

Install

Claude Desktop

Download fusion_mcpb.mcpb from the Fusion MCP release and open it with Claude Desktop. The bundle asks for the port Fusion's MCP server listens on (default 27182).

Cursor

Open Settings > Cursor Settings > Tools & MCPs and add Fusion to your MCP configuration (~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json in a project):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "fusion": {      "url": "http://127.0.0.1:27182/mcp"    }  }}

Make sure the port matches the one shown in Fusion's preferences. See the Fusion blog post for more.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
