US bill serial numbers: star note print runs and fancy serial patterns with exact odds.

VerifiedStreamable HTTPWeb executableData & AnalyticsFinance

Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant look up US paper-money serial numbers for star note print runs, fancy serial patterns and their odds.

What it does
SerialHunt answers questions about US bill serial numbers using Bureau of Engraving and Printing production figures. Its check_serial tool identifies the Federal Reserve Bank, works out the series when possible, lists every collector pattern in the digits with its odds, and for star notes reports the print run, notes printed and rarity band. find_star_runs returns the ten smallest star runs on record, list_serial_patterns defines the 17 fancy patterns with match counts, and get_coverage shows which denominations and series are covered and when the data was last updated.
When to use it
Use it when someone wants to know whether a US bill's serial number is worth keeping, which star note runs are rarest, or what a pattern such as a radar serial means and how rare it is. It is a reference lookup, not an appraisal service.
Requirements
A remote MCP server reached over Streamable HTTP at the provider's endpoint; no account, credentials, environment variables or headers are needed. Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can connect.
Before you install
The server receives the tool name and its arguments, such as a serial number and denomination, to answer the query and states that it does not store them. It gives no prices and makes no authenticity claims, so results should not be treated as valuations or authentication.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open SerialHunt in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

README

SerialHunt for Claude and other MCP clients

[SerialHunt]

Ask an AI assistant whether a US bill is worth keeping and get an answer from government production figures instead of memory: the star note print run a serial came from and how many notes shared it, every fancy pattern in the digits with its exact odds, and the rarest star runs to watch for.

This repository holds:

  • the connection details for the SerialHunt remote MCP server at https://bigballi.com/SerialHunt/mcp,
  • a Claude plugin that adds that server plus a paper-money-serials skill, which teaches Claude how to read the numbers.

The server is run by SerialHunt. Its star note figures come from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's production reports, through the uspapermoney.info archive for Series 1963 to 2017A, and it updates weekly. The same answers are on the web lookup.

What you can ask

  • "I got a $1 bill with serial A 032 12345 ★, Series 2017A. Is it rare?"
  • "Is MB 123 45678 C on a $20 a fancy serial number?"
  • "Which $2 star notes had the smallest print runs?"
  • "What is a radar serial number, and how rare is it?"

Tools

All tools are read-only (readOnlyHint: true) and need no account.

ToolWhat it answers
check_serialOne note from its serial: the Federal Reserve Bank, the series (worked out from the serial when it can be), every collector pattern in the digits with its odds, and for a star note the print run it came from, the notes printed and the rarity band.
find_star_runsThe 10 smallest star runs on record, optionally for one denomination, series or Federal Reserve Bank.
list_serial_patternsThe 17 fancy serial patterns, each strictly defined, with how many of the 100,000,000 possible serials match.
get_coverageWhich denominations and series the figures cover, the last update and any known gap.

SerialHunt gives no prices and makes no authenticity claims, on purpose.
