Overview

AI-generated overview

A remote chess reference server that lets an assistant name openings, read FEN and PGN positions, fetch daily puzzles and estimate Elo changes.

What it does
Chessigma exposes seven read-only chess tools over Streamable HTTP. get_opening_guide returns a guide by opening name, with main line, key variations and ideas for each side, and about 3,700 catalogued names return an ECO code and moves. identify_opening names the opening of a move sequence or PGN, analyze_position reads a FEN (side to move, check, mate or stalemate, legal moves, material, opening name), analyze_game summarizes a PGN, review_online_game turns a public Chess.com or Lichess game link into a Chessigma review link, get_daily_puzzle returns a puzzle since 1 January 2024, and calculate_elo estimates a rating change with K-factor defaults for FIDE, Chess.com and Lichess. The…
When to use it
Useful when someone wants opening names and guides, quick position or game facts from FEN or PGN, a daily puzzle, or an Elo change estimate, without installing anything. Not for engine-strength analysis, which the server links out to a browser-based board for.
Requirements
A remote MCP server at the documented Streamable HTTP endpoint; nothing to install. No account, sign-in, API key or environment variable is declared. Works in Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, ChatGPT and other MCP clients that support remote HTTP servers.
Before you install
Read-only: no tool writes data, calls an AI model or fetches another site while it runs, and input is not stored. For rate limiting, each request's time, method, path, IP address and user agent are logged, and all callers share 300 requests per minute. Game links sent to review_online_game must be public Chess.com or Lichess games.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Chessigma in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

README

Chessigma MCP server

Chess tools for Claude, ChatGPT and any MCP client, from Chessigma: opening guides, the opening behind any moves, position and game facts, review links for Chess.com and Lichess games, the daily puzzle and Elo estimates. Read-only, no account, no sign-in.

The server runs on chessigma.com, so there is nothing to install. This repository holds its public description and the server.json published to the official MCP Registry.

Tools

ToolWhat it does
get_opening_guideChessigma's guide to an opening by name: main line, key variations and the ideas for each side. Popular openings have a full guide; any of about 3,700 catalogued names returns its ECO code and moves.
identify_openingNames the opening of a move sequence or PGN: ECO code, how long it followed theory, and the first move that left it.
analyze_positionReads a FEN: side to move, check, mate or stalemate, every legal move, the material count and the opening name.
analyze_gameSummarizes a PGN: players, result, opening, how the game ended and the final position.
review_online_gameTurns a public Chess.com live game or Lichess game link into a link to its move-by-move review on Chessigma.
get_daily_puzzleToday's puzzle, or any day's since 1 January 2024: the position, the solution and a link to play it.
calculate_eloEstimates the rating change after one game with the Elo formula, with K-factor defaults for FIDE, Chess.com and Lichess.

The tools state facts from the rules of chess, an opening catalogue and Chessigma's puzzle archive; they do not run an engine. For engine analysis, their links open the Chessigma analysis board, where Stockfish runs in your browser.
