Overview

AI-generated overview

CompanyData MCP server lets an assistant search official business registers in 200+ countries and pull full company records via the CompanyData API.

What you can do
  • Search companies across official business registers in 200+ countries using the same query parameters as the CompanyData search API
  • Retrieve a full company record by ID, with the field set allowed by your subscription
  • Look up exact city values used by search and export filters
When to use it
Useful when you need company research, lead or prospect lookups, or verification of business details from official registers, and want the assistant to query them directly instead of copying data by hand.
Requirements
A CompanyData API key, sent as the x-api-key header for the hosted endpoint at companydata.com/mcp/ or as COMPANYDATA_API_KEY for the local npm package. The local option needs Node.js 18+. Network access to the CompanyData API; an optional COMPANYDATA_API_BASE_URL overrides the API origin.
Before you install
The API key is a secret passed in the x-api-key header or COMPANYDATA_API_KEY; keep it out of shared configs and logs. Results depend on your paid subscription, and the enrich tool returns only the fields your plan includes. Queries and company IDs are sent to CompanyData's servers.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open CompanyData in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect x-api-key credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.companydata%2Fmcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

CompanyData.com MCP server

Model Context Protocol server that exposes the CompanyData HTTP API as tools: company search, company export (enrich), and location lookup (cities).

Product overview and setup guide: companydata.com/product/mcp-server/.

OpenAPI contract: https://companydata.com/openapi.json.

Hosted (no install)

Connect your MCP client to https://companydata.com/mcp/ and send your API key in the x-api-key header (get a key).

Claude Code:

bash
claude mcp add --transport http companydata https://companydata.com/mcp/ --header "x-api-key: your-api-key-here"

Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "companydata": {      "url": "https://companydata.com/mcp/",      "headers": { "x-api-key": "your-api-key-here" }    }  }}

Local (npx)

Requires Node.js 18+.

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "companydata": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "@companydata/mcp-server"],      "env": { "COMPANYDATA_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here" }    }  }}

Build from source

bash
git clone https://github.com/companydatacom/companydata-mcp-server.gitcd companydata-mcp-servernpm installnpm run build

Environment

Cursor & Claude Desktop

  1. Build the project (npm run build).
  2. In your MCP host (e.g. Cursor Settings → MCP or Claude Desktop config), add a server (adjust paths):
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "companydata": {      "command": "node",      "args": ["/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/companydata-mcp-server/dist/index.js"],      "env": {        "COMPANYDATA_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here",        "COMPANYDATA_API_BASE_URL": "https://app.companydata.com"      }    }  }}
  1. Reload MCP / restart Cursor if needed.

Smoke checklist

  • Server starts without errors (npm run build && node dist/index.js with env set).
  • MCP host lists tools: company_search, company_enrich, field_lookup.
  • company_search returns 200 payload for a simple query (e.g. search=BoldData).
  • field_lookup returns city suggestions (e.g. search=amst).

Development without a separate build step:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "companydata": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["tsx", "/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/companydata-mcp-server/src/index.ts"],      "env": {        "COMPANYDATA_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here",        "COMPANYDATA_API_BASE_URL": "https://app.companydata.com"      }    }  }}

CLI

After npm run build, the package exposes companydata-mcp when linked (npm link) or when node_modules/.bin is on PATH.

Distribution

  • Hosted: https://companydata.com/mcp/ (Streamable HTTP, stateless). The website serves the same tools from a copy of src/tools.ts.
  • npm: @companydata/mcp-server.
  • Official MCP Registry: com.companydata/mcp (see server.json).
