Cutout Labs MCP server that lets an assistant remove image backgrounds and return transparent PNG cutouts, plus check remaining free quota.
What you can do
Remove the background from an image supplied as a URL or base64 data and get back a cutout
Return a transparent PNG by default, or place the subject on a solid colour when a background colour is set
Check how many free background-removal calls remain today for the API key
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to produce transparent-background product shots, portraits or other cutouts from images without running a local segmentation model, and to keep an eye on the remaining free daily calls.
Requirements
A Cutout Labs API key, supplied as the CUTOUTLABS_API_KEY environment variable for the local npm package or as an Authorization bearer header for the remote endpoint. The local option runs via npx and needs Node.js; the remote option needs network access to the Cutout Labs API.
Before you install
The API key is a secret and must be kept private. Images are sent to the Cutout Labs service for processing, so avoid submitting sensitive or confidential pictures. Free usage is limited per day, and the server notes that results can be imperfect when several objects or a person and a product appear together.
Connect Authorization token credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.cutoutlabs%2Fmcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Remove the background from an image and return the cutout. Provide exactly one of image_url or image_base64. Returns a transparent PNG by default, or the subject on a solid colour when bg_color is set. When several objects or a person and a product appear together, the model may keep or drop some of them (for example a hand holding a product); use roi to restrict the subject area. Parts of a subject hidden behind something else cannot be recovered.
Return how many free remove_background calls remain today for the API key.
Takes no parameters.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
