Analyze a Mac's disk, explain each folder and clean what recreates itself, with 7-day undo.
Overview
Lets an AI assistant analyze a Mac's disk usage, explain what each folder is, and propose a cleanup with a 7-day undo.
- What you can do
- Analyze disk usage and identify what each folder is, including caches, build data, node_modules, Docker and AI models
- Propose a cleanup, selecting only items that recreate themselves and flagging user data as view-only
- Set aside deleted files for 7 days so they can be restored
- Find duplicate and similar photos, screenshots, videos and bursts
- Archive unused items into a verified .zip instead of deleting them
- Explore a folder tree and size-sorted table with Quick Look and filtering
- When to use it
- Useful when a Mac is running low on space and you want an assistant to explain what is taking up room and suggest a safe cleanup, rather than deleting folders blindly.
- Requirements
- A local MCP server (stdio) that works with the DiskSpace AI Mac app; the app requires macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon or Intel. No environment variables, headers or authentication are declared.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open DiskSpace AI in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

This repository is DiskSpace AI's public documentation: the catalog of folders the app knows, how to connect it to your AI agent, the release notes, and the place to report bugs or request features. The app itself is not open source.
What it does
- It knows what every folder is. uv, npm, pnpm and Homebrew caches, Xcode build data, node_modules from idle projects, Docker, AI models, simulators, installers you already used… The ones it doesn't know are explained by Apple's AI, on your Mac.
- Four colors, one rule. Green recreates itself and comes selected; amber is for review; gray is your data and is only shown; purple is unclassified.
- With a safety net. What recreates itself is deleted right away; your files are set aside for 7 days and can be restored.
- Duplicate and similar photos. In your Photos library and your folders: exact duplicates, near-identical shots (Apple's Vision picks the best one, on your Mac), old screenshots, big videos and bursts.
- Archive instead of delete. What you don't use but want to keep goes into a .zip that's fully verified before the original is set aside.
- An Explorer with sizes. A folder tree and a table sorted by size, with Quick Look and a filter: what Finder doesn't show you.
- Honest numbers. APFS clones and hard links are counted once, and Docker shows what it really takes up.
- For your AI agent. Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex or Cursor can analyze the disk and propose a cleanup; they always ask before cleaning. How to connect it
- Your files never leave your Mac. No analytics or tracking.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
