ExactPDF local stdio MCP client: hosted API PDF merge, split, compress, Markdown source packs.
Overview
ExactPDF is a local stdio MCP server that lets an assistant run hosted PDF workflows such as merging, splitting, compressing and building Markdown source packs.
- What you can do
- Merge and split PDF files through the hosted ExactPDF API service, as described in the registry entry for this server. Compress PDF documents using the same hosted processing. Produce Markdown source packs from PDFs. Start the local server without a key to get setup guidance, then add the key for hosted PDF workflows.
- When to use it
- Use it when you want an assistant to combine, divide, shrink or convert PDF documents and you are comfortable sending those files to a hosted third-party API. It is not needed if you only work with PDFs locally or offline.
- Requirements
- Runs as a local process on the user's machine, installed from the npm package and started over stdio; desktop only, not web-executable. The EXACTPDF_API_KEY environment variable is optional for starting the server and getting setup guidance, but required for the hosted PDF workflows. Network access to the hosted ExactPDF API is implied.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open ExactPDF in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

25% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
