Overview

AI-generated overview

Identifies stage lighting fixtures and their DMX mode from a DMX channel list, matching against a library of 10,500+ GDTF profiles.

What you can do
  • Match a DMX channel list to fixtures: give channel names in DMX order from address 1 and get the best-matching fixtures with a 0-100 score and the matched DMX mode.
  • Retrieve fixture references: results include links to the fixture page and the .gdtf file.
  • Accept channel lists in English, Czech, German or Spanish, including abbreviations, synonyms and typos.
When to use it
Useful when you have a channel list from a manual, console or fixture-profile TXT and need to know which lighting fixture and DMX mode it belongs to. Handy for stage and event lighting setup, patching, or identifying unknown fixtures.
Requirements
Remote streamable HTTP endpoint at gdtf-lights.com; no authentication, environment variables or headers declared. One JSON-RPC message per POST. Catalog language follows the endpoint URL (English by default, or cs, de, es).
Before you install
Results are probabilistic: when confidence is low or several fixtures tie, the answer is uncertain and needs a manufacturer or DMX values to confirm. The site publishes no prices or stock, so it cannot be used for purchasing decisions. Channel lists you submit are sent to a third-party service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open DMX to GDTF in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.gdtf-lights%2Fdmx-to-gdtf/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Identify fixture by DMX channels

Finds the fixtures whose GDTF profile matches a DMX channel list and the matched DMX mode: channel names in DMX order from address 1 (English, Czech, German or Spanish; abbreviations, synonyms and typos are understood), as in a manual, on a console or in a fixture-profile TXT. Give channels (a list) or text (a pasted list, or a TXT with one or more modes; rows such as "Shutter;0;Closed;32;Open" add DMX values as a tie-breaker). Returns up to limit fixtures with score 0-100, the matched GDTF mode (mode.name and mode.channels), links to the fixture page (url) and the .gdtf file (gdtf_url), confidence and same_score_count (several fixtures with the same layout: ask for the manufacturer or DMX values). Same search as https://gdtf-lights.com/dmx-to-gdtf. Limit per IP: 20000 searches a day and 300 a minute, shared with the JSON API of that page; 500 a minute and 10000 an hour for all API and MCP clients together.
