Before you install
Most actions write to the spreadsheet: 23 of 26 actions modify cells, tabs, formatting, charts or protection, and some delete charts or tabs. Destructive actions are off by default and can be enabled by an admin; a read-only connection limits the assistant to read actions. Access is granted per connected account, so check which account and actions are enabled before use.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Google Sheets MCP by InsightfulPipe in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

What is Google Sheets MCP?

Google Sheets MCP is a remote Model Context Protocol server hosted by InsightfulPipe. Preview tabs, headers, and targeted ranges from connected Google Sheets to pair manual data with AI workflows.

Installation

Claude

  1. Copy the MCP Server URL: https://google-sheets.insightfulmcp.com/
  2. Open Claude Connectors Settings
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click Add custom connector
  4. Paste the URL and click Add
  5. Click Connect and sign in to InsightfulPipe if asked. Claude then lists the connector as connected.

ChatGPT

Custom MCP servers are added through ChatGPT's Developer mode. Availability depends on your ChatGPT plan, and workspace admins may need to allow it.

  1. Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT settings
  2. Create a new app for a remote MCP server and paste the URL: https://google-sheets.insightfulmcp.com/
  3. Sign in to InsightfulPipe if asked. The connection finishes as soon as you are signed in.
