Overview

AI-generated overview

A remote MCP server that opens an interactive Mandarin reader for text you supply, giving per-word meaning in context, pinyin and parts, and saving words to…

What you can do
  • Open an interactive reader for a Mandarin passage, message or subtitle excerpt you supply, with hover or tap word cards
  • Inspect a specific word or pattern at a Unicode code-point offset for its contextual card, pinyin, meaning status and alternatives
  • Show the connected MTW account name and email before saving
  • Save a single word from the supplied passage to the connected MTW Backpack when the learner explicitly asks
When to use it
Useful for learners working through real Mandarin text who want word-by-word meaning in context rather than a full translation, and who may want to keep selected words in an MTW account.
Requirements
Runs as a remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no packages, environment variables or headers are declared. Account connection is needed for the account and save tools.
Before you install
Reading and inspection are anonymous and save nothing; only the save tool writes, and it adds words to the connected MTW account's Backpack. The account tool reads the account name and email. Pinyin is expected pronunciation, not audio, and word ranges are not exhaustive segmentation.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Mandarin The Wild Reader in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.mandarinthewild%2Freader/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

read_mandarin

Read real Mandarin

Open an interactive reader for a Mandarin article excerpt, message or subtitle passage the user supplies. Hover or tap words for meaning in context, pinyin, parts and uncertainty. Keeps the original text; anonymous and does not save it. Use inspect_mandarin_word for one specific word. Does not fetch links or transcribe media.

Parameterstextrequiredtitle

inspect_mandarin_word

Understand a word in its sentence

Inspect the Mandarin word or pattern at a Unicode code-point offset in the exact supplied passage. Returns MTW’s contextual word card with expected pinyin, meaning status, parts and offered alternatives. Count Unicode code points, not UTF-16 units; preserve the original passage. A null card means no applicable Mandarin target. Does not save or grade learning.

Parameterstextrequiredtitleoffsetrequired

get_mandarin_account

Check the connected Mandarin The Wild account

Show the connected MTW account before saving. Requires account connection; reads only the account name and email. Does not list private passages or saved words.

Takes no parameters.

save_mandarin_word

Save a chosen Mandarin word to Backpack

Save one word from the exact supplied passage to the connected MTW Backpack ONLY when the learner explicitly asks to save it. Re-inspects the word through MTW; for an ambiguous meaning, pass only the sense ID the learner selected from the offered choices. Preserve text, context and title. Use one operation UUID for this save and reuse it after a lost reply. Does not mark the word known, grade recall, or save the entire passage.
