Overview

AI-generated overview

Remote MCP server that reads hidden metadata — EXIF, GPS, camera, timestamps, C2PA and AI-generator tags — from a public image or video URL.

What you can do
  • Inspect a public image or video URL and report its embedded metadata: GPS coordinates, camera and lens, timestamps, software, XMP, C2PA/Content Credentials and AI-generator signals.
  • Report how many bytes of the file are metadata.
  • Handles JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, TIFF, MP4 and MOV up to 15 MB.
  • Read-only: the file is downloaded, parsed in memory and not modified or stored.
When to use it
Useful when you want to check whether a photo or video leaks a location, identify the camera or software behind it, or verify C2PA and AI-generation labels before sharing or trusting a file. It only inspects files already hosted at a public URL.
Requirements
A remote endpoint at metadataremoverai.com over Streamable HTTP; nothing runs locally. No API key, account or configuration is needed. The inspected file must be reachable at a public http(s) URL and be 15 MB or smaller.
Before you install
Each call sends the URL you provide to the third-party server, which downloads that file; only use URLs you are allowed to inspect. The server is read-only and cannot strip metadata — removal is pointed to a separate browser tool. The README's claim that files are not stored or logged is the provider's own statement and cannot be verified from here.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Image Metadata Inspector in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.metadataremoverai%2Fmetadata-inspector/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Image Metadata Inspector for OpenClaw

Report the hidden metadata in a public image or video URL: GPS location, camera, timestamps, software, C2PA Content Credentials and AI-generator tags. Read-only. Wraps the free remote MCP server at metadataremoverai.com.

This plugin adds the metadataremoverai.com remote MCP server to OpenClaw. Nothing runs locally: OpenClaw connects to https://metadataremoverai.com/mcp over Streamable HTTP. No API key, no account, no config.

Install

bash
openclaw plugins install git:github.com/fazal-bhinder/openclaw-metadata-inspector

Or from a local checkout: openclaw plugins install ./openclaw-metadata-inspector. Then check it loaded with openclaw plugins inspect metadata-inspector. The tools are available from the next agent session.

Usage

  1. Install the plugin (see above) and start a new agent session.

  2. Check it loaded: openclaw plugins inspect metadata-inspector should list the tools below.

  3. Ask in plain language. The agent picks the tool. For example:

    • "Does this photo leak a GPS location? "
    • "Show the camera, date and software metadata of "
    • "Is there a C2PA or AI-generator label on ?"

No setup or configuration is needed.

Data and permissions

  • The plugin adds one remote MCP server, https://metadataremoverai.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP). It has no local code, needs no permissions and runs nothing on your machine.
  • Each tool call sends only its arguments to that server: the public image or video URL you give it. The server downloads that file (max 15 MB) to read its metadata and does not modify or store it. Only use URLs you are allowed to inspect.
  • No API key, account, OpenClaw config, local files or conversation history are sent.
  • How the server handles the URL: it accepts only http(s) URLs, downloads the file with a hard 15 MB cap, parses its metadata in memory for that one request and returns the report. The file isn't written to storage, cached or logged (see functions/mcp.ts in the site's source), and it's never modified.

Tools

OpenClaw prefixes MCP tools with the server name, so they appear as metadata-inspector__<tool>.

ToolWhat it does
metadata-inspector__inspect_metadataFetch a public image or video URL (JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, TIFF, MP4, MOV; max 15 MB) and report GPS, camera and lens, timestamps, software, C2PA, AI-generator signals and how many bytes are metadata. Does not modify or store the file.

Try asking

The server only reads. To actually strip metadata, use metadataremoverai.com in your browser: files never leave your device and pixels are not re-encoded.

Manual setup (without the plugin)

Add the server to your OpenClaw config yourself:

json
{  "mcp": {    "servers": {      "metadata-inspector": { "url": "https://metadataremoverai.com/mcp", "transport": "streamable-http" }    }  }}

Check

npm test (or node check.mjs) calls the live server and asserts a real result. Needs Node 18+ and no dependencies.

Files

  • openclaw.plugin.json: the native OpenClaw manifest. It declares the remote server under mcpServers.
  • .claude-plugin/plugin.json and .mcp.json: the same server in the Claude bundle format, which OpenClaw and ClawHub also read.

About

Made by Fazal Singh Bhinder, who also runs metadataremoverai.com. The server is free and read-only. MIT licensed.

Inspect image or video metadata

Fetch a public image or video URL (JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, TIFF, MP4, MOV; max 15 MB) and report its hidden metadata: GPS coordinates, camera and lens, timestamps, software, C2PA/Content Credentials, AI-generator signals (Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, etc.), and how many bytes are metadata. Does not modify or store the file.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
