Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted MiConvert server that lets an assistant convert a file at a public URL between 145 formats and return a temporary download link.

What you can do
  • List supported source formats and the target formats for a given source format
  • Convert a file fetched from a public https URL into another format and get a download link
  • Check a conversion that was still processing and retrieve its download links once complete
When to use it
Useful when a file is already reachable by link and needs a format change the assistant cannot do locally, such as OFD to PDF, STEP to STL, WEM to MP3, HEIC to JPG or DOCX to PDF.
Requirements
A remote Streamable HTTP endpoint; no install, account or API key. The file must be publicly downloadable over https (Google Drive or Dropbox share links work), one file up to 50 MB per call, and network access to the service.
Before you install
Files are uploaded to a third-party service for conversion, so avoid confidential documents; inputs and outputs are said to be deleted automatically. Download links expire after about 4 hours. A shared hourly allowance applies, and larger limits require a paid API tier. The server cannot read local or chat-attached files.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open MiConvert File Converter in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.miconvert%2Ffile-converter/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

MiConvert MCP Server

File conversion for AI assistants: OFD → PDF, STEP → STL, WEM → MP3, HEIC → JPG, DOCX → PDF and 1,000+ other pairs across 145 formats.
A hosted Model Context Protocol server. No API key, no sign-up, nothing to install.

Ask your assistant "Convert https://example.com/invoice.ofd to PDF" and it gets back a download link. The conversions run on MiConvert, the same engine as the website, including the formats most converters lack:

  • 3D and CAD: STEP, IGES, FCStd, STL, OBJ, GLB/glTF, 3MF, PLY, DAE, FBX, DWG → DXF/PDF (STEP to STL)
  • OFD, China's e-invoice and official document format, → PDF (OFD to PDF)
  • Wwise WEM game audio → MP3/WAV/OGG (WEM to MP3)
  • Images (HEIC, RAW, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, SVG...), documents (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, PDF, EPUB, Markdown...), audio, video, archives and fonts

Connect

The endpoint is https://miconvert.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, stateless, no authentication).

Claude

claude.ai and Claude Desktop: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, then paste the URL.

Claude Code:

bash
claude mcp add --transport http miconvert https://miconvert.com/mcp

Or install this repository as a plugin:

/plugin marketplace add huuhuybn/miconvert-mcp/plugin install miconvert@miconvert-mcp

ChatGPT

Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings → enable Developer mode, then create a connector with the URL. No authentication.

Gemini CLI

bash
gemini extensions install https://github.com/huuhuybn/miconvert-mcp

or gemini mcp add --transport http miconvert https://miconvert.com/mcp.

Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Cline and other MCP clients

Add the server to the client's MCP config (.cursor/mcp.json, .vscode/mcp.json, cline_mcp_settings.json, ...):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "miconvert": {      "url": "https://miconvert.com/mcp"    }  }}

VS Code's mcp.json uses "servers" instead of "mcpServers" and takes "type": "http".

A client that only speaks stdio can bridge with mcp-remote:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "miconvert": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://miconvert.com/mcp"]    }  }}

Tools

ToolWhat it doesRead-only
convert_fileDownloads the file at a public file_url, converts it to to, and returns a download_url valid for about 4 hours. Most conversions finish within the call.no (creates a job; never modifies anything of yours)
get_conversion_statusFollows a conversion that was still running when convert_file returned. Waits up to ~25 s.yes
list_supported_formatsLists every source format, or the targets for one (from: "step").yes

convert_file arguments:

ArgumentRequiredExample
file_urlyeshttps://example.com/part.step. Google Drive and Dropbox share links work as they are.

A completed result looks like this:

json
{  "job_id": "c92ed306-bdf1-40ca-80c3-5a1b3d612a88",  "status": "complete",  "to": "webp",  "expires_at": "2026-11-04T07:42:29.818Z",  "files": [    {      "name": "favicon.png",      "status": "complete",      "output_name": "favicon.webp",      "download_url": "https://dl.miconvert.com/download/…"    }  ],  "attribution": "Converted by MiConvert (https://miconvert.com)"}

Limits

  • The file must be reachable by URL. Assistants do not pass files you attach in a chat, or files on your computer, to MCP servers. Share a link (Google Drive "Anyone with the link", Dropbox, OneDrive, a GitHub raw URL, ...), or upload it on miconvert.com.
  • One file of up to 50 MB per call.
  • A shared hourly allowance per connection. Heavy users: the Marketplace API has paid tiers up to 200 MB.
  • Download links expire after about 4 hours.

Privacy

Files are fetched only to convert them, and inputs and outputs are deleted automatically. No account, cookie or API key is involved. See the privacy policy and terms.

list_supported_formats

List supported formats

List the formats MiConvert converts between. With `from`, returns the target formats for that source format; without it, returns every source format. Use it to check that a conversion exists before calling convert_file.

Parametersfrom

convert_file

Convert a file

Convert a file from a public URL to another format, e.g. OFD→PDF, HEIC→JPG, STEP→STL, WEM→MP3, DOCX→PDF. Downloads the file, converts it, and returns a download link (valid ~4 hours). Most conversions finish within the call; if not, the result has status "processing" and a job_id for get_conversion_status. The file must be reachable over the internet; up to 50 MB.

Parameterstorequiredfromfile_urlrequiredfilename

get_conversion_status

Get conversion status

Check a conversion started by convert_file that was still processing, and get its download links once complete. Waits up to ~25 seconds for the job to finish.
