Overview

AI-generated overview

Own It maps who controls a business's web presence — domain, DNS, hosting and site — from public data, and rates how hard each layer would be to leave.

What you can do
Audit a business's web presence layer by layer, showing who controls the domain, DNS, hosting and site and how hard each would be to leave, using public data only (RDAP, nameservers, public fingerprints). Check domain control without reading the website: registrar, registrant when public, EPP status and transfer locks, dates, DNSSEC, nameservers, DNS host and mail provider from MX and SPF. List the vendor-naming rules Own It uses, including platforms, hosts, registrars, DNS and email providers, tag formats and widgets, with markers, portability ratings and sources.
When to use it
Useful when assessing a business's website setup, such as before an acquisition, a vendor or agency change, or a migration, and you want to know who holds each layer and how locked in it is. Also handy for a quick domain, DNS and email control check without visiting the site.
Requirements
Remote MCP endpoint over streamable HTTP; no authentication, environment variables or headers declared. It relies on public sources such as RDAP, DNS records and public fingerprints, so network access to those sources is implied.
Before you install
Results are based on public data only, so registrant details appear only when the public record shows them and vendor identification is fingerprint-based and may be incomplete or wrong. Treat portability ratings as guidance, not legal or contractual advice.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Own It in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.modernmustardseed%2Fown-it/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Audit who controls a business online

Map who controls each layer of a business’s web presence and how hard each would be to leave, from public data only: domain registration over RDAP (registrar, registrant when public, EPP status and transfer locks, expiry, DNSSEC), DNS host from the nameservers, website platform from public fingerprints (Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, WordPress, Webflow, GoDaddy Website Builder, Duda, HighLevel, Framer, agency and franchise builders and others), email provider from MX and SPF, analytics and ad tag IDs present in the page (GA4, Tag Manager, Google Ads, Meta Pixel and others), call tracking, embedded booking, CRM, chat and email signup tools, and profile links including a Google Business Profile when supplied. Returns an ownership map with, per layer, who controls it, a portability rating, a plain-words reason, evidence, sources and the first step to take control, plus a 0 to 100 portability score. It cannot see inside any account, so ownership of a Google Business Profile or tag account is reported as a check to make, never guessed. Results are cached for 24 hours.

Check domain, DNS and email control

Check who controls a domain, its DNS and its email, without reading the website: registrar and IANA id, registrant when the public record shows one, EPP status codes and transfer locks, registration and expiry dates, DNSSEC, nameservers and DNS host, and mail provider from MX and SPF. Returns a 0 to 100 control score, each layer with a reason and the first step to take control, and the raw registration facts. Shares the 24 hour cache with audit_ownership.
