Overview

AI-generated overview

Searches booksellers worldwide for new or used copies of a book, with shipping and prices in the buyer's currency, and sets email alerts for future listings.

What you can do
  • Search bookseller catalogs worldwide by ISBN or title and author, with filters such as first edition or price cap, returning offers that ship to the buyer's country
  • List the bookseller sources Near Fine covers, optionally filtered by the country they serve
  • Create a six-month alert on a search that emails the buyer once a matching new listing appears
  • List the buyer's alerts with status, last check, expiry and found listings
  • Cancel an alert by its id
When to use it
Useful when someone wants to find a specific book across many secondhand and rare-book sellers at once, compare offers that actually ship to their country, or be notified when an out-of-stock or rare title becomes available.
Requirements
Remote streamable HTTP endpoint at nearfine.com; no package or API key declared. The alert tools require the person to sign in to a Near Fine account the first time, and alerts send email to that account.
Before you install
Alert tools act on the person's Near Fine account: set_alert creates a six-month email subscription and cancel_alert deletes an alert permanently. Sign-in is required, so the assistant should confirm with the user before creating or cancelling alerts. Search queries and country are sent to Near Fine and its bookseller sources.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Near Fine in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.nearfine%2Fbooks/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Pass an ISBN-10 or ISBN-13 for an exact edition, or title and author keywords. The query can also carry a price cap, as in "under $40" or "max 30 €" (in the buyer's currency when it names none), and ask for a first edition, a signed copy, a dust jacket, a hardcover or a paperback, as in "wolf hall signed first edition under £200", or for an ebook or audiobook alone. Offers over the cap, counting known shipping, and offers in other formats than the one asked for are left out; criteria reports what was read. Returns offers sorted cheapest first, each with title, seller, condition (new, used, ebook or audiobook), price and shipping in the seller's currency, the same in the buyer's currency when it differs, and the URL to buy. set_alert

Set an alert

Set an alert on a search for the person. The first time, they sign in to Near Fine. Near Fine checks the alert for six months and emails them once when a new listing turns up with everything the query asks for, such as a first edition, a signed copy or a price cap. The query reads as search_books reads it. Listings there already never count: the alert stays pending until its first check has noted them. Setting an alert that's already set keeps it as it is. Returns the alert, with its status and its link on Near Fine, and the person's plan: how many alerts it allows, how many are in use and how often each is checked. A full plan comes back as an error; paid plans, at plans_url, have more.

list_alerts

List alerts

List the person's alerts on Near Fine. The first time, they sign in. Finds come first, then alerts being checked, then the rest, newest first. Each has its id, query, country, status, when it was set, last checked and runs until, a link to it on Near Fine, and, once it has found a listing, the listing's title, seller, condition, price and shipping in the person's currency, and the URL to buy it. Statuses: pending (noting what's listed already), live (watching), found (emailed a find and stopped), ended (the person got the book), expired (ran its six months) and paused (the plan has room for fewer alerts). Also returns the person's plan.

Takes no parameters.

cancel_alert

Cancel an alert

Cancel one of the person's alerts on Near Fine by its id, from list_alerts or set_alert, deleting it as its Delete button on Near Fine does. The first time, they sign in. Returns the cancelled alert and the person's plan.
