MCP server for remote filesystem operations on cloud storage (Google Cloud Storage).
Overview
A local MCP server that lets an assistant upload, download, list, modify and delete files in a Google Cloud Storage bucket.
- What you can do
- Upload files from a local path or base64 data to a bucket path, optionally making them public or setting a content type and metadata. Download files as text or base64 for binary data. List files and directories with prefix filtering and a result limit. Change file properties such as public/private access, content type and custom metadata, and generate signed URLs for private files. Delete files from the bucket.
- When to use it
- Useful when an assistant needs to read or write files in a Google Cloud Storage bucket, for example storing screenshots, reports or generated artifacts, or retrieving existing objects, without a separate upload step. Read-only mode suits assistants that should only inspect and fetch files.
- Requirements
- Runs locally via npx with Node.js. Requires a Google Cloud Storage bucket name in GCS_BUCKET and one authentication method: inline service account credentials (GCS_CLIENT_EMAIL and GCS_PRIVATE_KEY), a key file path in GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS, or Application Default Credentials. Optional settings include GCS_PROJECT_ID, GCS_ROOT_PATH, GCS_MAKE_PUBLIC and ENABLED_TOOLGROUPS.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Remote Filesystem in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
Remote Filesystem MCP Server
An MCP server for remote filesystem operations on cloud storage providers. Currently supports Google Cloud Storage (GCS), with plans for S3, Cloudflare R2, and more.
Features
- Upload files to cloud storage with public/private access control
- Download files as text or base64 (for binary files)
- List files and directories with prefix filtering
- Modify file properties (public/private, content type, metadata)
- Delete files from remote storage
- Root path constraint to restrict access within bucket
- Toolset groups for permission-based access control
- Inline credentials support (no JSON key file needed)
- Signed URL generation for private files
Installation
Or run directly with npx:

Toolset Groups
The server supports permission-based access control via tool groups:
readonly: Onlydownloadandlist_filestools are availablereadwrite: All tools are available (includes readonly tools)
Set ENABLED_TOOLGROUPS=readonly to restrict to read-only operations.
Authentication
The server supports multiple authentication methods:
1. Inline Credentials (Recommended)
2. Key File
3. Application Default Credentials (ADC)

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
