Manage, check, investigate and automate server, database and storage backups from your AI assistant.
Overview
Hosted SimpleBackups MCP server that lets an assistant check backup health, investigate failures, read run logs, and run, pause or resume backups.
- What you can do
- Check account and backup health: signed-in account and team, health overview, backup list and details, failing backups
- Inspect runs: run timelines, run logs and output of a specific run
- Review infrastructure: connected servers and storage destinations
- Prepare restores: restore details for a chosen backup
- Change state: trigger backups now, pause and resume backups
- When to use it
- Useful when you already run backups through SimpleBackups and want to ask in plain language which backups failed and why, read logs, or pause and resume schedules during maintenance without opening the dashboard.
- Requirements
- Remote hosted endpoint over streamable HTTP; nothing to install. Requires a SimpleBackups account and OAuth 2.1 sign-in on first use, approved in the MCP client; no API keys are needed.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open SimpleBackups in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.simplebackups%2Fmcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.Other MCP clients
Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

SimpleBackups MCP Server
Check, debug, and fix your backups from any AI assistant. Find out which backups are failing and why, read run logs, and run, pause, or resume backups for your databases, servers, cloud storage, and SaaS apps.
SimpleBackups automates backups for databases, servers, cloud storage, and SaaS apps. It covers Supabase, Neon, PlanetScale, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and apps like Notion, GitHub and Linear. This MCP server lets your AI assistant (GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others) check backup health, investigate failures and run safe operations without opening the dashboard.
This is a hosted remote server. There is nothing to install or run, and this repository holds documentation only.

Tools
Configuration
VS Code / GitHub Copilot
Add to .vscode/mcp.json (or your user MCP settings):
Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients
On first use your client opens a SimpleBackups sign-in page. Approve access and the tools are available right away.
Usage
- Add the server with one of the configs above.
- Sign in with your SimpleBackups account when prompted.
- Ask your assistant about your backups in plain language.
Write tools (run-backups, pause-backups, resume-backups) change state, so most clients ask you to confirm before running them.
Security
SimpleBackups is ISO 27001:2022 certified. Access uses OAuth with the permissions of your own account.
