Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant capture any public web page as PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, or read it as markdown, text or metadata.

What it does
SnapRender is a hosted screenshot and content-extraction service exposed as an MCP server. Its tools capture a URL with device presets, full-page, dark mode and ad or cookie banner removal, check whether a capture is already cached, extract page content as markdown, text, HTML, article, links or metadata, run batches of up to 50 URLs, create signed screenshot links, and manage webhooks and usage reporting.
When to use it
Use it when an assistant needs to see or quote a live web page: visual checks, device comparisons, archiving pages as images or PDFs, or pulling clean article text for summarization. It is also useful for bulk captures of many URLs in one background job.
Requirements
Remote endpoint at over Streamable HTTP, with no install. Sign-in is OAuth 2.0 through a SnapRender account (Google, GitHub or email), or an API key sent in the Authorization Bearer or X-API-Key header. A local npm option (npx snaprender-mcp) needs Node.js and the SNAPRENDER_API_KEY environment variable. A free plan allows 200 screenshots a month without a credit card.
Before you install
Captures consume a monthly quota: take_screenshot, extract_content and each batch URL cost one capture, and signed links cost one when opened, so heavy use can exhaust the free plan or incur charges. The server asks for an API key (Authorization Bearer, X-API-Key or SNAPRENDER_API_KEY) or an OAuth sign-in, so treat those credentials as secrets. Webhook tools create and delete subscriptions, and captures send the target URLs to a third-party service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open SnapRender in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config.

SnapRender Integrations

[SnapRender MCP connector: tool definition quality and endpoint health on Glama] [smithery badge] [npm MCP] [npm SDK] [PyPI SDK] [License: MIT] [Available on CodeGuilds] [MCP Badge]

Official integrations for the SnapRender Screenshot API: give AI agents eyes. Capture any public web page as PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, or read it as clean markdown.

Remote MCP Server (recommended)

SnapRender runs a hosted MCP server. Connect from any MCP client with nothing to install:

https://app.snap-render.com/mcp
  • Transport: Streamable HTTP
  • Sign in: OAuth 2.0 (the client opens a SnapRender sign-in window; Google, GitHub or email), or an API key in the Authorization: Bearer or X-API-Key header
  • Tools (11): capture, cache check, usage, signed links, content extraction, batches and webhooks (full list below)
  • Prompts: screenshot_website, compare_devices
  • Free plan: 200 screenshots a month, no credit card
  • Directory listing: SnapRender on Glama (health-checked, tool quality graded)

Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

Open Customize, then Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector, and paste https://app.snap-render.com/mcp. Claude opens a SnapRender sign-in window; approve it and the tools are ready. Step-by-step guide: snap-render.com/claude.

Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and other clients

Setup pages for each client, with one-click install where the client supports it: snap-render.com/ai-connectors.

A client that takes headers instead of OAuth:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "snaprender": {      "url": "https://app.snap-render.com/mcp",      "headers": {        "Authorization": "Bearer sk_live_your_key_here"      }    }  }}

Any MCP client (curl)

bash
# Initialize a sessioncurl -X POST https://app.snap-render.com/mcp \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \ -H "X-API-Key: sk_live_your_key_here" \ -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"initialize","params":{"protocolVersion":"2025-03-26","capabilities":{},"clientInfo":{"name":"test","version":"1.0"}}}'

The server returns an Mcp-Session-Id header: include it in later requests to reuse the session.

Smithery

Install via Smithery for automatic setup with any MCP client.

Local MCP Server (npm)

If you prefer running locally via stdio transport:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "snaprender": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "snaprender-mcp"],      "env": {        "SNAPRENDER_API_KEY": "sk_live_your_key_here"      }    }  }}

See mcp-server/ for full documentation.
