Overview

AI-generated overview

A remote MCP server for The Agents Index that lets an assistant search, read and compare published AI agents and agent frameworks, including pricing and last-检查

What you can do
Search published agents by full text and fetch compact records with name, slug, tagline and URL, then open one listing in full as answer-first markdown with sourced answers and proof URLs. Browse categories with live listing counts and get a ranked best-of sheet for a category. Compare two agents side by side on taglines, pricing, API availability and tags, flagging unknowns. Submit an agent by URL, view the listings an account owns and their status, send a buyer-intent lead to an agent or category, and subscribe an email to the newsletter with double opt-in.
When to use it
Useful when someone is choosing between AI agents or agent frameworks and wants researched facts on capabilities, cost and freshness rather than marketing pages. Also fits workflows that submit a new agent to the directory, track an owned listing's review status, or pass a buyer enquiry to a vendor.
Requirements
Remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no local runtime or package. No authentication for search, reading, comparing, best-of, leads or newsletter. Submitting a listing and viewing owned listings need a signed-in account with verified email, sending its session Cookie header or an agent key created in the dashboard.
Before you install
Submitting a listing and reading owned listings require account credentials (session Cookie header or agent key); keep them private. send_lead sends a real name, permanent email and message to a third-party vendor or category, so only send with the person's consent. subscribe_newsletter sends a confirmation mail to the given address. Listing status can involve paid options such as express or featured.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open The Agents Index in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.theagentsindex%2Fmcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

search_listings

Search listings

Full-text search over The Agents Index's Published agents. Returns compact records (name, slug, tagline, url). Fetch depth with get_listing.

Parameterslimitqueryrequired

get_listing

Get one listing

One agent in full, as answer-first markdown: the summary, then every question on the sheet with its answer, the vendor's own words for it and the URL that proves it. Identical to /{slug}.md and to the HTML page.

Parametersslugrequired

list_categories

List categories

The Agents Index's categories with their live listing counts, 0 for one with none yet.

Takes no parameters.

compare_listings

Compare two listings

Two agents side by side, as markdown: taglines, pricing, API availability, tags — the researched compare facts, honest about unknowns.

Parametersarequiredbrequired

get_best_of

Best of a category

The Published agents in one category, in the order its category page prints (ranked by what we can confirm: a public price, an API and docs, independent sources, stated limits), as a markdown answer sheet. Payment never moves a row.

Parameterscategoryrequired

submit_listing

Submit a listing

Submit an agent to The Agents Index: the url alone; we write its name and description from its own pages. Requires an existing signed-in account with verified email; send its session Cookie header on the MCP request, or an agent key the account made at https://theagentsindex.com/dashboard/agents as Authorization: Bearer. Identity and email come only from that session or key. Sign in or explicitly create an account at https://theagentsindex.com/login?next=%2Fsubmit and verify its email before retrying. This tool creates no account and sends no verification email. Returns {httpStatus:201, id, slug, status:'Draft'}; research + the quality gate decide publication. Your own (url, session email) replay within 24h returns httpStatus:200. The fit check starts at once and usually answers within a minute: poll GET https://theagentsindex.com/api/submissions/{id} and wait the Retry-After seconds it sends while fit is "checking". fit then reads "accepted" (it goes live, and the account is mailed), "rejected" (mailed with the reason) or "undecided" (a person looks within 2 days). No session: {httpStatus:401, error:'sign_in_required', message, loginUrl}. Unverified session: {httpStatus:403, error:'email_unverified', message, email, remediation}. Company gate: the account's address, or an address it proved with a code, must be on the submitted website's domain; otherwise {httpStatus:403, error:'domain_unverified', message, domain, remediation} — POST /api/domain-proof/start {url, email} mails a 6-digit code to an address at that domain, POST /api/domain-proof/verify {proofId, code} redeems it, then submit again. Personal mailboxes (gmail, outlook…) never prove a domain. No refusal creates a listing. Validation returns 400; duplicate/claim responses return 409. Read tools remain keyless.

Parametersurlrequired

send_lead

Send a lead

Send a buyer-intent enquiry (lead) to an agent or a whole category on The Agents Index. Keyless. Requires consent:true, a real name, a permanent (non-disposable) email, a message of at least 20 chars, and a target (listingSlug OR categorySlug). Returns { ok, delivered }. Idempotent by (email, target) within 7 days. Nothing here changes a listing's rank, tier or copy.

my_listings

Read your listings

What the The Agents Index owner dashboard shows about the listings an account owns: each one's status (`status.kind`: review with the expected date, accepted with `liveOn` and `paid` ('express' | 'featured' | null: the paid way that releases it, Featured including Express review), live, refused with the reason, or archived), the listing as it shows, 30 days of real numbers with the 30 before, where AI answers named the product or cited its page, and what it can buy here at this site's prices. Only for the account itself: send its session Cookie header, or its agent key with "Read your listings" as Authorization: Bearer. Same answer as GET https://theagentsindex.com/api/owner/listings. Read-only: corrections go through the dashboard's request form.

subscribe_newsletter

Subscribe to the digest

Double opt-in subscribe to the The Agents Index digest of new and freshly re-verified agents. Provide an email; returns { ok }. Nothing is sent but one confirmation mail until the person at that address uses its link, which works for 7 days; an unconfirmed address is deleted after 30. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
