The Margin
com.themarginappv1.0.0Updated Oct 1, 2026
Notes, boards, habits, money and family life in one place your AI can read and act on.
Overview
Connects an AI assistant to a Margin workspace so it can read and act on notes, boards, habits, money and family data.
- What it does
- The Margin is a personal and household app holding boards, notes, checklists, habits, money, meals, chores and chat. Its remote MCP server exposes 271 tools: 112 read-only, 82 that add or change data, and 77 that can remove or overwrite. Every tool is scoped to the signed-in person and the workspaces they choose, and items added by an assistant are marked with who added them.
- When to use it
- Use it when you already keep plans, lists, habits or household finances in The Margin and want an assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Cursor to read across that data or make changes on your behalf. A sandbox endpoint lets you try it without an account.
- Requirements
- A remote MCP endpoint over Streamable HTTP; no local package or runtime. Sign-in is OAuth 2.1, so most clients only need the server URL. A Margin account and workspace are needed for real data; the sandbox endpoint needs no credential and creates a temporary demo household deleted about an hour after the last call.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open The Margin in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Other MCP clients
Add this to your client's mcpServers config.

What it is
The Margin keeps boards, notes, checklists, habits, money, meals, chores and chat in one app. A household or a team shares what it wants to share, and each person keeps a private side.
- It works with no signal. A full copy of your data lives on the device and catches up when it is back online.
- It has an assistant built in. Margin Intelligence can read across everything you keep there and act on it.
- It works with the assistant you already use. Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Cursor and any other MCP client can connect to your workspace, and each thing they add is marked with who added it.
- Your data is yours. Export all of it whenever you like.
It runs in the browser and installs to a phone's home screen. Native apps for iPhone and Android are coming soon.
Connect your AI
The server is at https://mcp.themarginapp.com/mcp and speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP. Sign-in is OAuth 2.1, so most clients only need the URL.
Menu names move around between releases of each client. If one of these is out of date, tell us.
Try it without an account
Point a client at https://mcp.themarginapp.com/sandbox/mcp with no credential. The server makes a demo household for that connection and deletes it about an hour after your last call.
What an assistant can do
271 tools. 112 only read, 82 add or change, 77 can remove or overwrite. Every one is scoped to the person who signed in and the workspaces they chose.
The full list is in connector/TOOLS.md, with input schemas in connector/tools.json. The guide is at themarginapp.com/docs/agents-and-mcp.
