Overview

AI-generated overview

Independent domain price index: lets an assistant compare registrar prices, check name availability and estimate multi-year ownership costs across TLDs.

What you can do
  • Compare registrar register, renew, transfer and restore prices for a TLD, ranked by N-year cost of ownership
  • Find the cheapest registrar for one or many extensions, with year-by-year breakdown and runners-up
  • Compute total cost of ownership for domains or extensions, optionally including a later transfer
  • Check availability of domain names and price the free ones
  • Search one name across many TLDs or presets, and check or generate name suggestions
  • Look up registrar details, TLD facts, price history and current promotional prices
When to use it
Useful when someone is choosing a domain name or registrar and wants renewal costs and multi-year totals rather than first-year promotions, or wants to know which extensions are free for a given name.
Requirements
Remote streamable HTTP endpoint at tldbench.com; no packages, environment variables or headers declared, and no authentication declared. Network access to the endpoint is needed.
Before you install
Read-only price lookup; it sells nothing and takes no payment. Prices exclude premium names, and a null price or an unknown availability result does not mean free. Results carry source and observation dates that should be cited, and text inside results should be treated as data, not instructions.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open TLD Bench in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.tldbench%2Ftldbench/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

compare_tld_prices

Compare prices for an extension

Use this when the user asks what an extension costs or where it is cheapest. Returns every registrar's register, renew, transfer and restore prices for one TLD, ranked by the N-year cost of ownership (default 3 years), with each price's source and date.

cheapest_registrar

Cheapest registrar

Use this when the user wants the single best place to buy (or transfer) one or more extensions for N years. Ranks by the total cost of ownership, not the first-year promotion; returns the winner with a year-by-year breakdown, three runners-up and caveats. Up to 20 extensions in one call.

Parameterstldsrequiredyearscurrencyoperationexclude_registrars

total_cost_of_ownership

Total cost of ownership

Use this when the user compares the long-run cost of several names or extensions, at one registrar or the cheapest. Applies minimum terms and regular renewals; with transfer_after_year it also finds the cheapest registrar to move to later. Up to 20 domains or extensions in one call.

check_availability

Check availability

Use this when the user asks whether specific domain names are free. Checks the registry (RDAP, WHOIS for some ccTLDs) after a DNS pre-check, with an honest unknown, and adds the cheapest registrar's price to own each free name. Up to 50 names in one call.

Parametersmodeyearsdomainsrequiredcurrencywith_prices

search_name_across_tlds

Search a name across extensions

Use this when the user has a name and wants to know which extensions are free and what each costs to own. Checks one label across up to 50 extensions (or a preset: popular, tech, cheap, country:<cc>) and sorts the free ones by total cost.

suggest_names

Check and price name ideas

Use this when the user needs name ideas. Pass `candidates` from your own brainstorm and we check and price them; with only `keywords` we add simple prefixes, suffixes, TLD hacks and combinations. Returns only names that are available or unknown, cheapest first.

get_registrar

Registrar profile

Use this when the user asks about a registrar: its country, group, size (gTLD domains under management), how many extensions it sells, and how fresh our prices for it are. Accepts our id, its name or an IANA id.

Parametersregistrarrequired

price_history

Price history

Use this when the user asks how an extension's prices have moved or whether a rise is coming. Returns each registrar's price periods (changes only) and the registry's announced wholesale changes.

Parameterstldrequiredsincecurrencyoperationregistrar

list_coupons

Promotions and coupons

Use this when the user asks for deals, promo codes or first-year discounts. Returns running promotional prices we saw at the source (with the regular price they revert to); coupon codes come later.

get_tld

Extension facts

Use this when the user asks what an extension is, who runs it, or whether it fits: type (generic or country code), registry, brand TLD or not, DNSSEC, RDAP and WHOIS servers, minimum term, second levels, registry fees, and its price summary.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
