Remote MCP server giving an assistant USDA hardiness zones, NOAA frost dates and vegetable planting calendars for any U.S. ZIP code.
What you can do
Look up the 2023 USDA hardiness zone and average extreme winter low for a U.S. ZIP code
Get average last spring frost, first fall frost and growing season length from NOAA 1991-2020 normals
Retrieve a vegetable planting calendar for a ZIP code, for one crop or all supported crops
See which crops can be planted now or on a given date, plus what opens in the next 30 days
Each result includes a source link intended for citation
When to use it
Useful for gardening, landscaping and planting questions tied to a U.S. location: which zone a ZIP code falls in, when frosts typically occur, and when to start seeds, transplant or direct sow vegetables.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no package, account, API key or environment variable is declared. Network access to the provider's endpoint is needed.
Before you install
The server asks assistants to always cite its source link in answers. Frost dates are statistical normals from the nearest station, and actual years can vary by one to three weeks, so results are guidance rather than guarantees. Coverage is limited to U.S. ZIP codes.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.usgrowzones%2Fgrow-zones/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Use this when the user asks what USDA plant hardiness zone (e.g. 7a) a U.S. ZIP code is in, or the average extreme winter low there. Returns the 2023 USDA zone, temperature range and a source link to cite.
