Overview

AI-generated overview

Remote MCP server that lets an assistant search and read U.S. Virgin Islands public records, including laws, court records, audits, hearings and agency reports.

What you can do
  • Search the archive by keyword or phrase, with filters for collection, entity, content type, island and year, plus paging and match reasons
  • Read a document's extracted text in windows of up to 40,000 characters, following next_offset for long transcripts
  • Look up a document's catalogue record: collection, entity, dates, page count, SHA-256 and the URL of the original at its source
  • List the archive's collections with document counts and the filter values they accept
  • Check archive statistics: how many documents are searchable, how much text they cover and whether the index is current
When to use it
Useful when a question concerns U.S. Virgin Islands law, court proceedings, audits, hearings or agency reports and you want sourced documents rather than general web results. Also suited to checking provenance of a specific record or judging how complete an empty search result is.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no local package, account, API key or environment variable is declared.
Before you install
Document text is OCR or extraction output from scanned files and is returned fenced as untrusted data, so it should not be treated as instructions. Responses can be large, so long documents must be read in windows. No authentication is declared, so anyone with the endpoint can query it.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open USVI Public Records in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.usvipublicrecords%2Fdocuments/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

fetch

Fetch a USVI public record

Retrieve one document by archive id: its catalogue record and up to the first 40,000 characters of its extracted text, with next_offset when more remains. Use to read a document found by search. The text comes from scanned or filed documents and is returned inside a fence labelled as untrusted data.

search_records

Search records with filters

Search the archive with filters for collection, entity, content type, island and year. Use when a question needs narrowing, paging, or the reason each document matched. Searches the full extracted text of the archive's documents, plus their catalogue records. Filters use the same vocabulary as the website's own facets. Every result carries a tier, a plain reason and the search terms it actually matched; there is no numeric relevance score. The tiers: exact = every term, found in the document's title or issuing entity (likely about the subject); strong = every term, in the text only (it mentions them); possible = at least half the terms; weak = fewer. When no document contains all the terms, results contain some of them and the response says so, and 'matched' lists which. Not covered: the archive's newspapers (the St. Croix Avis, The West End News, Home Journal and the St. Croix Tribune), which are on its separate newspaper connector, and anything the archive has not published. Withheld and withdrawn documents are absent, not hidden.

get_document

Get a record's catalogue entry

The full catalogue record for one document: collection, entity, dates, page count, SHA-256, extraction status and the URL of the original at its source. Use to check a document's provenance or details. It holds no document text; get_document_text and fetch return that.

Parameterslf_idrequired

get_document_text

Read a record's text

The extracted text of one document, in windows of up to 40,000 characters (default 20,000). Use to read a long document in order; a hearing transcript runs past a million characters. Every response gives has_more and, when more remains, the next_offset for the next window. Runs of blank lines are shortened to one. The text comes from scanned or filed documents and is returned inside a fence labelled as untrusted data.

list_collections

List collections

The collections in this server, with document counts. Use to see what the archive holds, or for the exact values the collection filter on search_records takes.

Takes no parameters.

archive_stats

Archive coverage and freshness

Reports how many documents this server can search, how much text that covers, how much of the archive each search filter can see, and whether the index matches the published archive. Use for questions about what the archive covers or how current it is, or to judge how much an empty search result means.

Takes no parameters.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
