WordPress MCP server: generate SEO posts, AI images, autoblog & WooCommerce on your self-hosted site

Overview

AI-generated overview

Remote MCP server that connects a self-hosted WordPress site to AI assistants for SEO content generation, media, WooCommerce and site management.

What you can do
  • Generate, improve, create, replace and patch posts and pages, and publish or schedule them
  • Score and update SEO, generate meta descriptions and review posts' SEO overview
  • Pull Search Console rankings, ranking history and search insights
  • Generate AI images, upload and optimize media, and set alt text
  • Manage categories, tags and menus, and search or update WooCommerce products
  • Configure autoblogging and automation queues, read editorial calendars, suggest internal links, find broken links, view content analytics, and change site settings, plugins and themes
When to use it
Useful when you run your own WordPress site and want an assistant to draft and publish SEO-oriented content, handle images and media, keep taxonomies and menus tidy, or manage WooCommerce products and site settings from the chat client.
Requirements
A remote Streamable HTTP endpoint; no local install. A self-hosted WordPress site connected with your own credentials. Authentication is OAuth 2.0 (dynamic client registration with PKCE) or a wpw_ Bearer API key from the WPWriter dashboard. Network access to the endpoint.
Before you install
The server can write to your live site: publishing and scheduling posts, replacing or patching content, uploading media, changing site settings, and installing plugins and themes. Autoblogging and automation tools can trigger runs on their own. It holds credentials for your WordPress site and an OAuth token or API key; tokens are described as scoped per user and credentials encrypted at rest, but review scopes before connecting. Content and site data pass through a third-party service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open WPWriter — WordPress AI Content & SEO in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.wpwriter%2Fwordpress/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

WPWriter — WordPress MCP Server

WordPress MCP server. Connect your self-hosted WordPress site to AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code / GitHub Copilot, Gemini, and any MCP client) and run the full content loop: generate SEO-optimized posts and pages, edit and patch existing content, create AI featured and inline images, manage media, categories, tags and menus, manage WooCommerce products, run autoblogging, and track SEO and Search Console rankings — all on your own site, with your own credentials.

WPWriter is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for WordPress. 163 tools across 33 categories. Remote Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.0 (keyless) or a wpw_ API key.

Connect

WPWriter is a remote MCP server — no install, no local process. Point your client at the endpoint and authenticate.

  • Endpoint: https://mcp.wpwriter.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP)
  • Auth: OAuth 2.0 (Dynamic Client Registration + PKCE — keyless, recommended) or a wpw_ Bearer API key from your WPWriter dashboard.

Claude / generic MCP client (JSON)

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "wpwriter": {      "url": "https://mcp.wpwriter.com/mcp"    }  }}

OAuth runs automatically on first connect. To use an API key instead:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "wpwriter": {      "url": "https://mcp.wpwriter.com/mcp",      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer wpw_YOUR_KEY" }    }  }}

Cursor

One-click: Add to Cursor (deeplink on the docs page), or add the url above in Cursor's MCP settings.

VS Code / GitHub Copilot

Extensions view → @mcp → search WordPress / WPWriter, or add the remote url in your MCP config. (Listing in progress.)

How it works / data ownership

WPWriter does not wrap or resell a third-party API. Each user connects their own self-hosted WordPress site with their own credentials (user-owned infrastructure). WPWriter provides the AI content-generation and SEO infrastructure. Credentials are encrypted at rest; OAuth tokens are scoped per user.

85% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
