XcodeBuildMCP provides tools for Xcode project management, simulator management, and app utilities.
Overview
MCP server and CLI that lets an AI agent build, test and run iOS and macOS Xcode projects, manage simulators and devices, and use app utilities.
- What you can do
- Build and test Xcode projects and workspaces, including build-for-testing and running prepared test products
- Discover projects, schemes and targets
- Manage simulators and devices, including launching apps and capturing logs
- Run app utilities and debugging operations through a per-workspace daemon
- Also usable as a command-line tool with the same tools, plus update checks
- When to use it
- Useful when an assistant should work inside an iOS or macOS codebase: compiling, running tests on simulators or devices, and inspecting build or runtime output without you copying commands back and forth.
- Requirements
- Runs locally on macOS 14.5 or later with Xcode 16.x or later; Node.js 18+ for the npm/npx install (not needed with Homebrew). Device tools need code signing configured in Xcode. Optional environment variables: INCREMENTAL_BUILDS_ENABLED, XCODEBUILDMCP_DEBUG, XCODEBUILDMCP_ENABLED_WORKFLOWS, XCODEBUILDMCP_SENTRY_DISABLED.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open XcodeBuildMCP in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server and CLI that provides tools for agent use when working on iOS and macOS projects.
[CI] [npm version] [License: MIT] [Node.js] [Xcode 16] [macOS] [MCP] [Ask DeepWiki] [AgentAudit Security] [pkg.pr.new]
Installation
MobileBuildMCP ships as a single package with two modes: a CLI for direct terminal use and an MCP server for AI coding agents. Either install method gives you both.
Option A — Homebrew
Option B — npm (Node.js 18+)
Verify either install:
Connect your MCP client
Drop-in config snippets for Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, can be found in the official docs page MCP Clients. Most clients can also run the MCP server on demand via npx -y mobilebuildmcp@latest mcp without a global install.
Requirements
- macOS 14.5 or later
- Xcode 16.x or later
- Node.js 18.x or later (not required for Homebrew installation)
Skills
MobileBuildMCP now includes two optional agent skills:
-
MCP Skill: Primes the agent with instructions on how to use the MCP server's tools (optional when using the MCP server).
-
CLI Skill: Primes the agent with instructions on how to navigate the CLI (recommended when using the CLI).
To install with a global binary:
Or install directly via npx without a global install:
For further information on installing skills, see Agent Skills.
Notes
- MobileBuildMCP requests xcodebuild to skip macro validation to avoid errors when building projects that use Swift Macros.
- Device tools require code signing to be configured in Xcode. See Device Code Signing.
Privacy
MobileBuildMCP uses Sentry for internal runtime error telemetry only. For details and opt-out instructions, see Privacy & Telemetry.
CLI
MobileBuildMCP provides a unified command-line interface. The mcp subcommand starts the MCP server, while all other commands provide direct terminal access to tools:
Check for updates and upgrade in place:
The CLI uses a per-workspace daemon for stateful operations (log capture, debugging, etc.) that auto-starts when needed. See the CLI guide for full documentation.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
