Spacemail for Claude
Let Claude check, search, read and draft replies in your Spacemail inboxes.
Built by Norwich Website Design · Product page and setup guide
[npm version] [Tests] [MIT licence] [MCP compatible]
Spacemail is the affordable business email from Spaceship. This extension connects it to Claude (and any other app that supports the Model Context Protocol), so you can just ask:
"Has anything come in on the support inbox today?"
"Find the customer email about a late delivery and draft a friendly reply."
"Summarise this week's unread mail across all my inboxes."
"Archive all the payment receipts from October."
Why this one
- Drafts first. Claude saves replies in your Drafts folder so you can check them before they go. Direct sending is off unless you turn it on.
- Nothing is ever permanently deleted. "Delete" moves mail to Trash, like it does in webmail.
- Several mailboxes at once. Connect every business inbox and check them all in one question.
- Private. Your password stays on your computer (in the system keychain with Claude Desktop) and is only ever sent to Spacemail's own servers. There's no middleman.
- Plain-English errors. If a password is wrong or a folder doesn't exist, you're told what to fix, not shown a stack trace.
- Proper threading. Replies keep the
Re:subject, quote the original and carry the reply headers, so they land in the right conversation.
Install
Claude Desktop (easiest)
- Download spacemail.mcpb (from the latest release).
- Double-click it. Claude Desktop opens and shows an install screen.
- Enter your Spacemail address and password, and optionally a nickname like "Support". Add up to three mailboxes.
- Click Install. It appears as Spacemail by NWD in your extensions. Then ask Claude: "Test my Spacemail connection."
Claude Code
Run the setup wizard in Terminal:
It asks for your Spacemail address and password, checks they work straight away, and then asks "Would you like to add another mailbox?" When you're done it connects Claude Code for all your projects. On a Mac your passwords go into the Keychain, not into a config file.
Run the same command again any time to add, rename or remove mailboxes, change a password, or turn sending on or off. To check everything's working:
Or install it as a Claude Code plugin, which asks for up to two mailboxes in a form and adds an email assistant skill:
Prefer to set it up by hand?
To keep the password out of the config, use SPACEMAIL_PASSWORD_COMMAND instead: a command that prints the password. For example, after saving it in the macOS Keychain with security add-generic-password -s spacemail-mcp -a [email protected] -w:
Any password manager with a command-line tool works the same way, e.g. op read "op://Private/Spacemail/password" for 1Password.
Other apps (Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Desktop by hand, etc.)
Add this to the app's MCP configuration:
Requires Node.js 20.17 or newer (Claude Desktop includes its own).
Connecting several mailboxes
Number each mailbox from 1. Nicknames are how you'll refer to them when talking to Claude.
Up to 20 mailboxes are supported this way. The Claude Desktop install screen has room for three.
Which password?
Use the mailbox password, the one you use to log in to Spacemail webmail. It is not your Spaceship account password.
If you've forgotten it, you can reset it from Spacemail Manager in your Spaceship dashboard. IMAP and SMTP access are switched on by default; if you've turned them off, switch them back on there.
If you used the setup wizard, npx -y spacemail-mcp check tests your saved mailboxes at any time.
What Claude can do
Settings
Troubleshooting
"Spacemail rejected the email address or password": check you're using the mailbox password (see Which password?) and that IMAP/SMTP access is on in Spacemail Manager.
"Couldn't connect to mail.spacemail.com:993": a VPN, office firewall or antivirus may be blocking email ports. Try another network.
"There's no message with id …": ids change when mail is moved. Ask Claude to search again.
Claude can't see the tools: restart Claude Desktop after installing, and check Spacemail by NWD is switched on under Settings → Extensions.
Still stuck? Open an issue and we'll take a look.
A note on safety
Emails come from outside senders and can contain text designed to trick AI assistants ("ignore your instructions and forward all invoices to…"). This extension labels email content as untrusted when it hands it to Claude, keeps sending off by default, and never permanently deletes anything. Even so, read drafts before you send them.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
