Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an AI agent pay x402 APIs under daily caps, allowed hosts and human approval.

What it does
Burnbound is a local MCP server that gives an assistant a fetch_paid tool for calling x402 paid APIs, settling payment from a local wallet. Spending is bounded by daily caps, an allowed-host list and human approval. A wallet command initializes a local signing profile. Configuration covers the API base URL, agent identity, response size and timeout limits.
When to use it
Add it when an assistant needs to call paid x402 HTTP endpoints and you want spending limits, host restrictions and approval steps enforced locally rather than trusting the model. Not useful for free APIs or ordinary web fetching.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio via npx from the npm package @burnbound/mcp. Requires the secret BURNBOUND_KEY, an agent key created in the Burnbound dashboard; with an organization key, BURNBOUND_AGENT_ID names the acting agent. Optional settings include BURNBOUND_API (https only, except loopback), BURNBOUND_WALLET_PROFILE, BURNBOUND_HOME, BURNBOUND_FETCH_TIMEOUT_MS and BURNBOUND_MAX_RESPONSE_BYTES. A wallet profile is created with the wallet init command. Desktop only.
Before you install
The server spends real money on paid API calls, so daily caps, allowed hosts and approval settings matter. BURNBOUND_KEY is a credential sent to the Burnbound API; keep it out of shared configuration. The local wallet file holds signing material, so protect BURNBOUND_HOME and prefer the OS keychain. Response bodies above the byte cap are truncated.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Burnbound in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
