Overview

AI-generated overview

Byteland presents a developer community as a night city: look up developer buildings, profiles, projects, project rooms and GitHub contribution visuals.

What you can do
  • Explore the street: read buildings in a range, one building's rooms and recipe, and preview a user's building.
  • Look up people and work: developer or company profiles, their projects, and search across residents, projects, stacks and technologies.
  • Track attention: leaderboards by weekly visits, most viewed projects, newest residents, and per-user visit stats.
  • Read project rooms: list rooms and channels, read recent channel messages and forum threads with replies and reactions, and see live voice rooms.
  • Visualize GitHub: a year of contribution lights for any user, and any public repository as a contributor street with images and page links.
When to use it
Useful when you want to explore developer profiles, projects and community activity in a playful city metaphor, or to pull GitHub contribution calendars and repository contributor summaries as images and links for a README or profile.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no authentication, environment variables or headers are declared. Voice presence in the live tool depends on a running Byteland site via BYTELAND_URL (default local address); without it only recent rooms are known.
Before you install
Responses are the public view only, and private projects are hidden or return nothing. Profiles marked demo:true are samples with placeholder links, so treat them as illustrative rather than real. The live tool's voice presence relies on a local site address by default.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Byteland in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/dev.byteland%2Fbyteland/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

about

What Byteland is

Short description of Byteland: what buildings, rooms and lights stand for, units, privacy rules and supported languages. A good first call.

Takes no parameters.

get_street

A stretch of the street

Buildings in a range (owner, type, floors, light counts) and gaps (alleys, empty lots). Positions in centimetres, at most 80000 cm.

Parameterstofromlangmodeseed

get_building

Building detail

Public detail of one building: the owner’s profile, rooms and their states, machine-readable parts and the building recipe.

Parametersrefrequiredlangmodeseed

get_profile

Profile

A developer’s or company’s profile: bio, links (GitHub, website, socials), badges, projects and open-source contributions. If not on the street, looks for a saved profile, then GitHub; otherwise generates a sample (preview:true).

Parameterslangmodeseedgithubhandlerequired

list_projects

Projects

A profile’s projects: state, description, stack, links (repo, site) plus open-source contributions. Private projects appear only as hidden:true.

Parameterslangmodeseedgithubhandlerequired

get_project

One project

A single project of a profile. Returns nothing for private projects.

Parameterslangmodeseedgithubhandlerequiredprojectrequired

Unique visits (all time and this week), project views, weekly rank and the last 14 days for one username.

Parametershandlerequired

list_rooms

Rooms of a person

The project rooms of a person that have been used (every public project of a resident has a room, open by default; one nobody wrote in is empty and not listed): mode (open or read-only), channels with message counts, forum threads, last activity and how many are in voice. Closed rooms and private projects never appear.

Parametershandlerequired

read_room

The latest messages of one channel of a project room (default: its first channel) and the forum threads (idea, review, question, announcement) with reply and reaction counts.

Parameterslimithandlerequiredchannelprojectrequired

read_thread

Read a forum thread

One forum thread of a project room with all of its replies and reactions.

Parametershandlerequiredthreadrequiredprojectrequired

live

What is happening now

Voice rooms with people in them right now and the rooms with messages in the last 48 hours. Voice presence comes from the running site (BYTELAND_URL, default http://127.0.0.1:8787); without it only the recent rooms are known.

Takes no parameters.

preview_building

Deed preview

Builds a user's building as if it stood at the start of a street (GitHub repositories become rooms). The preview is not added to the city. Append the returned url_hash to index.html to open it on the site.

Parameterslanggithubhandlerequired

year_in_lights

A developer’s year

Anyone's GitHub contribution calendar for one year, by month: contributions per day (with GitHub's quartile level), the total, days with contributions, the longest and the current streak and the busiest month. image is the Byteland picture of it (twelve month buildings, one window per day).

Parametersyearhandlerequired

repo_street

A repository as a street

Any public GitHub repository as a Byteland street: its top contributors (bots left out) with commit counts, who pushed in the last 30 days (their lights are on), who lives in Byteland, the total number of contributors, and the image and page links (street: an SVG for READMEs, page: the street page). total is null when GitHub will not list the contributors of a very large history; then the people are this month's committers.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
