Overview

AI-generated overview

Homing Pigeon sends SMS alerts from an assistant or script to one phone — the user's own verified US mobile number.

What you can do
  • Verify the account owner's US mobile number by texting a six-digit code and reading it back
  • Send a text message to that one verified phone, with no recipient field
  • Check verification or pause state, remaining message count, and the outcome of the last send
  • Install agent hooks so a text arrives when a long-running turn finishes or waits on the user
When to use it
Useful when someone wants a text message when a coding agent finishes a long task, needs input, or when a script or cron job succeeds or fails. It is meant for notifying the user themselves, not for messaging other people.
Requirements
Either the remote endpoint added as a custom connector with OAuth sign-in by phone number and code, or the npm package run locally with npx (Node.js). A US mobile number to verify. The CLI and API use a saved key or the HOMINGPIGEON_API_KEY environment variable.
Before you install
Sends real SMS messages, and free usage is limited, so texts can run out. The API key printed by the CLI should be kept out of git. Agent hooks send the agent name and folder name to the service, though not prompts or replies. Recipients can reply STOP to halt texts.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Homing Pigeon in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/dev.homingpigeon%2Fhomingpigeondev/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

Homing Pigeon

Homing Pigeon (homingpigeon.dev) sends text-message alerts from your code or your coding agent to one phone: yours. No carrier registration, no app, no browser signup. Free to start.

If you want a text from your code or your coding agent, tell your agent:

Use Homing Pigeon to text me when this finishes.

Messages go only to the US mobile number you verified. There is no "to" field.

Set up with a coding agent

Add the MCP server, and your agent gets three tools: verify, send and status.

sh
# Claude Codeclaude mcp add homingpigeondev -- npx -y homingpigeondev mcp
# Claude Code, as a pluginclaude plugin install homingpigeondev --marketplace homingpigeondev/homingpigeondev
# Codexcodex mcp add homingpigeondev -- npx -y homingpigeondev mcp
# Codex, as a plugin with the Homing Pigeon skillcodex plugin marketplace add homingpigeondev/homingpigeondevcodex plugin add homingpigeondev@homingpigeondev
# Gemini CLIgemini extensions install https://github.com/homingpigeondev/homingpigeondev

Agents that load Agent Skills can use skills/homingpigeon/SKILL.md.

For Cursor, Cline, Windsurf and other clients set up with JSON, add this to their MCP settings file (for Cursor, ~/.cursor/mcp.json):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "homingpigeondev": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "homingpigeondev", "mcp"] }  }}

Your agent asks for your number, you read back the six-digit code, and the agent saves the key on your machine. The code is the only step for you.

Use it in Claude or ChatGPT

Add this URL as a custom connector, then sign in with your phone number and the six-digit code texted to you:

https://homingpigeon.dev/mcp

In Claude, that is Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. In ChatGPT, turn on developer mode in settings, then add it as an app. Ask "Text me when we're done" and it can. Texts start with the app's name, such as [Claude] Draft is ready.

Get a text when your agent finishes or needs you

sh
npx -y homingpigeondev verify +15551234567npx -y homingpigeondev verify +15551234567 123456npx -y homingpigeondev hook install claude-code # or codex, cursor

Hooks change nothing in your project. To avoid spending texts on quick replies, a turn only texts you if it ran for at least 5 minutes. Change that with --after 10.

AgentFinishedWaiting on you
Claude CodeYesYes
CodexYesYes. Run /hooks in Codex to trust the hooks first.
CursorYesNo. Cursor has no event for this.

Hooks send the agent's name and your folder name, never your prompts or its replies. Remove them with npx -y homingpigeondev hook uninstall claude-code.

Use it from a shell script or cron job

sh
npm install -g homingpigeondev
homingpigeon verify +15551234567homingpigeon verify +15551234567 123456homingpigeon send "Backtest finished."./nightly-job.sh || homingpigeon send "Nightly job failed."tail -1 result.log | homingpigeon sendhomingpigeon status

pigeon works as a short alias. Add --json for machine-readable output. If HOMINGPIGEON_API_KEY is set, it is used instead of the saved key.

Use it from Python

sh
pip install homingpigeondev
python
import homingpigeondev
homingpigeondev.send("Backtest finished.")

No dependencies. It finds the key in HOMINGPIGEON_API_KEY or the one saved when you verified, so a phone verified through your agent or the CLI works here too. Details are in python/README.md.

Use it from any code

sh
curl -X POST https://homingpigeon.dev/v1/send \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $HOMINGPIGEON_API_KEY" \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -d '{"message": "Backtest finished."}'

Run homingpigeon key to print your key, and keep it out of git. The full API is in llms.txt and at homingpigeon.dev/openapi.json.

Reply STOP to any alert to stop texts immediately, and START to resume. Questions: [email protected].

Tools

3

verify

Verify the user's own US mobile number for Homing Pigeon (homingpigeon.dev). Call with phone to text them a six-digit code, then call again with phone and the code they read back. It cannot verify anyone else's number.

Parameterscodephonerequiredproject

send

Send a text message to the account owner's verified phone. The recipient is fixed; `message` is the only required field.

Parametersmessagerequiredidempotency_key

status

Report whether the phone is verified or paused, how many messages remain, and what happened to the last send. It sends nothing.

Takes no parameters.
