Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only MCP server for the Plug and Ship index: lets an assistant search MCP servers, agent skills and coding-agent plugins, see trending tools and best-of…

What you can do
  • Search MCP servers, agent skills and plugins by keywords or a plain-language task, filtered by type, client or remote-only
  • Fetch full details for one tool by slug: description, stars, install command, remote endpoint, license and tags
  • List fastest-growing tools by stars gained over a day, week or month
  • Browse curated best-of lists by topic, or list the available topics
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to recommend or compare MCP servers, skills and plugins for a task, or to check what is trending, without leaving the chat. It is a discovery index, not a tool that runs or installs anything itself.
Requirements
Nothing to install for the hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint; no API key or account. Running locally needs Node.js 18 or newer and network access to the public Plug and Ship API. Optional PLUGANDSHIP_API_URL overrides the API base URL.
Before you install
Read-only and needs no credentials. The public API is cached and rate-limited to roughly 60 requests per minute per IP, so bursts may return a rate-limit error. Search queries and tasks are sent to the Plug and Ship service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Plug and Ship in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/dev.plugandship%2Fplugandship-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

plugandship-mcp

An MCP server for Plug and Ship. It lets your coding agent search the Plug and Ship index of MCP servers, agent skills and coding-agent plugins without leaving the chat.

It is read-only. It calls the public Plug and Ship API (/api/v1) and needs no API key.

Listed in the official MCP Registry as dev.plugandship/plugandship-mcp.

Tools

ToolArgumentsWhat it returns
search_toolsquery or task (keywords or a plain-language task, e.g. "query my Postgres from Cursor"), type? (mcp / skill / plugin), client? (claude-code / cursor / codex / grok-bot), remote? (only MCP servers with a public HTTPS endpoint), limit? (1 to 50, default 10)Tools ranked by relevance (full-text + semantic match; stars, recent commits, a valid one-click config and a license only break ties), each with a one-line reason it matches, install command and page link. Also returns structured output, including what was understood from the task. client: "grok-bot" keeps only MCP servers with a public remote (HTTP) endpoint.
get_toolslugFull details for one tool: description, repo, stars, tags, install command, remote endpoint if any.
trendingperiod (day / week / month), type?, limit?Fastest-growing tools: stars gained in the period, from Plug and Ship's own daily star snapshots.
list_besttopic?, limit?A curated "best of" list. Leave topic empty to list topics (for example grok-bot-connectors, voice-agents, postgres-mcp-servers).

Use the hosted endpoint (no install)

Remote MCP server, Streamable HTTP, stateless, no auth:

https://plugandship.dev/mcp

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add --transport http plugandship https://plugandship.dev/mcp

Cursor (~/.cursor/mcp.json or .cursor/mcp.json in a project)

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "plugandship": { "url": "https://plugandship.dev/mcp" }  }}

Codex (~/.codex/config.toml)

toml
[mcp_servers.plugandship]url = "https://plugandship.dev/mcp"

Run it locally (stdio)

Requires Node.js 18 or newer. Runs straight from GitHub, no npm package needed (the built dist/ is committed):

bash
npx -y github:plugandship/plugandship-mcp

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add plugandship -- npx -y github:plugandship/plugandship-mcp

Cursor

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "plugandship": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "github:plugandship/plugandship-mcp"]    }  }}

Codex

toml
[mcp_servers.plugandship]command = "npx"args = ["-y", "github:plugandship/plugandship-mcp"]

From a checkout

bash
git clone https://github.com/plugandship/plugandship-mcpcd plugandship-mcpnpm installnpm run buildnode dist/index.js

Self-host Streamable HTTP

bash
node dist/index.js --http --port 3333 --host 127.0.0.1# endpoint: http://127.0.0.1:3333/mcp

Stateless, JSON responses, POST only. Requests with a browser Origin other than localhost are rejected. It binds to 127.0.0.1 by default. Put it behind HTTPS before exposing it anywhere.

Configuration

Env varDefaultPurpose
PLUGANDSHIP_API_URLhttps://plugandship.devAPI base URL (use http://localhost:3000 against a local site).

The public API is cached and rate-limited (about 60 requests per minute per IP). On a 429 the tool returns a short "try again in a minute" error.

Test

bash
npm test # stdio + local HTTP, against https://plugandship.devPLUGANDSHIP_API_URL=http://localhost:3000 npm test # against a local siteMCP_REMOTE_URL=https://plugandship.dev/mcp npm run test:remote # the hosted endpoint

npm test builds the server, starts it over stdio and over Streamable HTTP, connects with the official MCP SDK client, lists the tools and calls each one, including error cases (unknown slug, invalid input, foreign Origin). test:remote runs the same checks against a remote endpoint.

Registry

server.json is the MCP Registry entry: a remote-only listing (streamable-http, https://plugandship.dev/mcp) under the dev.plugandship namespace, verified by DNS.

search_tools

Search agent tools

Find MCP servers, agent skills (SKILL.md) and coding-agent plugins for a task. Pass a plain-language task (e.g. 'query my Postgres from Cursor', 'post to Slack from Claude Code') or keywords. The task is parsed for kind (MCP/skill/plugin), client (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, VS Code), remote vs local and language; results are ranked by relevance (full-text + semantic match), with stars, recent commits, a valid one-click config and a license only as tie-breakers. Every result explains why it matches. type, client and remote are strict filters (client grok-bot = MCP servers with a public HTTPS endpoint).

Get tool details

Full details for one tool by its Plug and Ship slug (from search_tools): description, stars, install command, remote endpoint, license, tags and last commit.

A ranked best-of list by topic, e.g. 'grok-bot-connectors', 'voice-agents', 'local-models', 'figma-mcp-servers', 'mcp-servers-for-databases'. Omit topic to list all topics.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
