Overview

AI-generated overview

Prismism lets an assistant publish files, HTML or Markdown as tracked, access-controlled shareable links and manage them from chat.

What you can do
  • Publish files, inline HTML or Markdown and get a shareable link, with optional password, email capture, domain/email allowlists and expiry
  • List, inspect and fetch artifact details and analytics, or retrieve raw content as text or base64
  • Update title, access level, gates, content or expiration, and permanently delete artifacts
  • Check connection and auth status, view account plan and usage, and register a new account to obtain an API key
When to use it
Useful when you want an agent to turn a generated report, document or page into a link you can share with tracking and access rules, and to review who viewed it, without setting up separate hosting.
Requirements
Either the hosted endpoint at prismism.dev/mcp with an x-api-key header, or the local npm package run via npx with Node.js 18+ and the PRISMISM_API_KEY environment variable. A Prismism account and API key are needed for most tools; an optional PRISMISM_BASE_URL overrides the API base URL.
Before you install
Requires an API key that grants access to your account's artifacts; keep it out of shared configs. Uploaded files and content are sent to Prismism's servers. Publishing, updating and deleting change data, and deletion is permanent. Changing access to private or allowlist silently clears password and email gates. Storage limits may prompt plan upgrades.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Prismism in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect x-api-key credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/dev.prismism%2Fmcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

@prismism/mcp-server

MCP server for Prismism — DocSend for AI agents.

Upload any file → get a tracked, shareable link. PDF, HTML, Markdown, images, video. Access control, analytics, email capture, webhooks.

Quick Start

1. Get an API key

Create a free account at prismism.dev or use the prismism_register tool after setup.

2. Connect your client

Hosted endpoint (recommended)

No install needed — connect directly to the Prismism API:

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add prismism --transport http https://prismism.dev/mcp \ --header "x-api-key: pal_your_key_here"

Claude Desktop — edit ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "prismism": {      "url": "https://prismism.dev/mcp",      "headers": {        "x-api-key": "pal_your_key_here"      }    }  }}

Cursor — edit .cursor/mcp.json:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "prismism": {      "url": "https://prismism.dev/mcp",      "headers": {        "x-api-key": "pal_your_key_here"      }    }  }}

Windsurf — edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "prismism": {      "serverUrl": "https://prismism.dev/mcp",      "headers": {        "x-api-key": "pal_your_key_here"      }    }  }}

VS Code — edit .vscode/mcp.json:

json
{  "servers": {    "prismism": {      "type": "http",      "url": "https://prismism.dev/mcp",      "headers": {        "x-api-key": "pal_your_key_here"      }    }  }}
Local (stdio) — alternative

Run via npx if you prefer local transport:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "prismism": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["@prismism/mcp-server"],      "env": {        "PRISMISM_API_KEY": "pal_your_key_here"      }    }  }}

3. Verify it works

Ask your agent: "Use the prismism_health tool to check the connection"

Tools

ToolAuth requiredDescription
prismism_health—Check connection and auth status
prismism_register—Create account + get API key (one-time)
prismism_publish✓Publish a file, HTML, or Markdown and get a shareable link
prismism_list✓List your artifacts with pagination
prismism_get✓Get artifact details + analytics
prismism_update✓Update title, access level, gates, content, or expiration
prismism_content✓Fetch raw artifact content (text or base64)
prismism_delete✓Permanently delete an artifact
prismism_account✓Get account info, plan, and usage

Publishing

"Publish this report as a shareable link"

The prismism_publish tool supports three modes:

  • File upload — Set content (plain text or base64) + filename. Use encoding: "base64" for binary files.
  • Inline HTML — Set html with raw HTML content. No file needed.
  • Inline Markdown — Set markdown with raw Markdown content. No file needed.

All modes support optional access, password, requireEmail, allowedDomains, allowedEmails, expiresAt, and allowNetwork parameters.

Supported file formats: PDF, HTML, Markdown, Images (PNG/JPG/GIF/SVG/WebP), Video (MP4).

Fetching content

"Get the content of my artifact abc123"

The prismism_content tool fetches raw artifact content. Text formats return as UTF-8 strings, binary formats return as base64. Owner API key bypasses all gates automatically. For non-owned gated content, pass password or email parameters.

Access control

"Make this artifact private""Set allowlist access with [email protected]"

The prismism_update tool supports access (public/private/allowlist), allowedEmails, password, requireEmail, and allowedDomains. Changing to private/allowlist silently clears password and email gates.

Registering without a key

If you don't have an API key yet, the prismism_register tool can create an account:

"Register me on Prismism with my email"

It returns the API key once — the agent will help you save it to your config.

Environment Variables

VariableRequiredDefaultDescription
PRISMISM_API_KEYFor most tools—Your Prismism API key
PRISMISM_BASE_URLNohttps://prismism.devAPI base URL

Response Format

All tools return a consistent JSON envelope:

json
{  "ok": true,  "data": { ... },  "_hints": ["Actionable guidance for the agent"]}

On error:

json
{  "ok": false,  "error": { "code": "STORAGE_LIMIT", "message": "..." },  "_hints": ["Upgrade at https://prismism.dev/settings/billing"]}

Requirements

  • Hosted endpoint: No requirements — works with any MCP client
  • Local (stdio): Node.js 18+, npm or npx

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
