Social media data for agents: profiles, posts, comments, search, ads, transcripts.
Overview
Local MCP server that gives assistants SocialScrape's social media data: profiles, posts, comments, search, ads and transcripts across platforms.
- What you can do
- Fetch transcripts, search, profiles, posts and comments across platforms, with the platform as an argument
- Query one tool per platform, choosing the resource such as user or profile posts
- Inspect exact parameters, allowed values, price and example arguments for any endpoint without an API call
- Call any endpoint by id, run batches of up to 100 requests, manage async jobs and monitors, and check credit balance
- When to use it
- Useful when an assistant needs social media content or account data from several platforms through one paid API, for research, monitoring or content analysis, rather than scraping each site itself.
- Requirements
- Runs as a local stdio process started by the MCP client, installed from the socialscrape-mcp PyPI package (for example via uvx). Requires a SocialScrape account and an API key in SOCIALSCRAPE_API_KEY; tool discovery works without a key. Optional settings narrow platforms and toolsets, set the API URL, response size and timeout.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Socialscrape in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
socialscrape-mcp
The SocialScrape MCP server: social media data (profiles, posts, comments, search, ads, transcripts) for Claude, Cursor and any other MCP client that starts a local server.
It is generated from SocialScrape's endpoint registry and grouped so an agent sees a usable number of tools instead of one per endpoint:
Only built endpoints appear as tools. A platform shows up in the next release after its endpoints are built.
Every result starts with ok | credits charged: 1 | credits remaining: 4999 (and the structured
copy carries the numbers as fields). Failures are free and come back as isError with the API's
error code, a retryable flag and what to do next.
Use it
The server runs on your own machine. Your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor) starts it as a subprocess over stdio. SocialScrape does not run a hosted MCP server, so there is no MCP URL to connect to.
Get a key at https://socialscrape.dev/sign-up?utm_source=github&utm_medium=repo&utm_campaign=socialscrape-mcp. Tool discovery works without a key; a tool call without one explains how to add it.
Fewer tools. Some clients cap the number of tools (Cursor warns past 40). Narrow the list in the env
block:
With core alone an agent still reaches every endpoint through describe and call_endpoint.
Serve it over HTTP yourself. For a client that can only reach a URL, install the extra and run the
server on a host you control: pip install 'socialscrape-mcp[http]', then socialscrape-mcp http --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8080. Each request carries its own key in the x-api-key header (or
Authorization: Bearer ...), and ?platforms= and ?toolsets= narrow the tools. This is yours to run and
secure; SocialScrape does not offer it as a service.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
- Tools listed15 pts
Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
