PlainGrade is a remote MCP server that scores the readability of English text and returns grade levels, text statistics and long sentences.
What you can do
Score English text for readability: Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning Fog, SMOG, Coleman-Liau, ARI and a consensus grade
Get a plain-English interpretation of the resulting grade level
Retrieve text statistics such as word, sentence and syllable counts plus reading and speaking time
List the sentences that exceed a length threshold
When to use it
Useful when an assistant writes or edits English prose and you want an objective check on how hard it is to read, or when auditing documents, help text or marketing copy for grade level.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no local install. Text must be English and at most 20,480 bytes UTF-8. Works without a key at roughly 10 calls/min and 50/day per IP; an optional free key (sent as an Authorization Bearer token or X-Api-Key header) raises limits to 100/day and 30/min, and a paid Pro license key is available.
Before you install
The optional Authorization header carries an API key or paid Pro license key, so treat it as a secret. The Pro tier costs $5/month. Text is sent to a third-party service, though it is described as scored in memory and never stored or logged. Rate limits apply without a key.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/dev.workers.mike-tusa.plaingrade-api%2Fplaingrade-api/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Score English text readability (Flesch, Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning Fog, SMOG, Coleman-Liau, ARI)
Compute readability scores for English text: Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid grade, Gunning Fog, SMOG, Coleman-Liau, ARI and a consensus grade, with plain-English interpretation, text statistics (words, sentences, syllables, reading and speaking time) and the sentences longer than a threshold. Read-only; the text is scored in memory and never stored or logged. Same engine as the PlainGrade JSON API (POST /v1/score).
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
