Overview
MemoryLayer is a local-first persistent memory server for AI agents, adding reasoning and formal verification, run as a local stdio process.
- What you can do
- Give an assistant persistent memory that survives across sessions, stored locally on the user's machine.
- Support reasoning over stored memories and formal verification of them.
- Optionally use a MemoryLayer API key to raise rate limits, with the key used only for license validation.
- When to use it
- When you want an assistant to remember context between sessions without sending memory content to a third party, and you are willing to run a local npm package on a desktop machine.
- Requirements
- Runs as a local process over stdio, installed from the npm package @raajvamsy/memorylayer, so a Node.js runtime is needed. Desktop only; no web execution. Optionally set the MEMORY_API_KEY environment variable for higher rate limits.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open MemoryLayer in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
