Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only access to sourced dyscalculia statistics: prevalence figures, cited studies, chart datasets and a description of five number-skill screening games.

What you can do
  • Retrieve prevalence figures with sample size, year, age, reference key and a calc flag, filtered by study, age or percent range
  • List every cited source with the topics it supports, and fetch a full citation by key with DOI or PMID where available
  • List the statistics page charts and tables with download addresses, or fetch one dataset's rows with notes and reference keys
  • Describe the five screening games, their item counts, scoring in general terms, optional item sets and limits
  • Return license and citation text for the compilation
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to answer questions about how common dyscalculia is, which study supports a figure, or how the site's screening games work, with citations rather than unsourced numbers.
Requirements
Nothing to install: a hosted remote endpoint is available. A local option runs through npx, or the HTTP transport can be self-hosted with Node.js or Docker. No account, API key or environment variable is declared.
Before you install
Figures are published research estimates, not a diagnosis of any person, and the server gives no advice about a learning difficulty. There is no global prevalence figure; studies use different criteria and ages, so numbers are not directly comparable. No tool scores a person or returns a screening result. The compilation is CC BY 4.0 and each figure belongs to its cited source.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Dyscalculia.io in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.dyscalculia%2Fdyscalculia/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

dyscalculia-mcp

MCP server for the sourced dyscalculia statistics on Dyscalculia.io: prevalence studies with sample size, year, age and reference, 93 references with DOI or PMID where the site has one, the chart and table datasets, and a plain description of the five number-skill screening games. Ask an assistant "what share of children have dyscalculia, and which study says so?" and it answers from sourced figures. Read-only.

Tools

ToolWhat it returns
get_prevalencePrevalence figures with sample size, publication year, age, reference key and a calc flag; filter by study, age or percent range
list_studiesEvery source the statistics page cites, with the topics it supports (prevalence, sex ratio, comorbidity, persistence, family, maths anxiety, interventions, ...)
get_referenceOne full citation by key (for example shalev2000) with DOI or PMID where the site has one, and the topics that cite it
explain_screening_testThe five screening games: what each measures, item counts, how items and games are scored in general terms, optional item sets, and the limits
list_chart_dataThe 4 charts and 3 tables on the statistics page with their CSV, JSON and SVG addresses; pass an id to get the rows with notes and reference keys
get_citationLicense (CC BY 4.0 compilation, each figure belongs to its source), citation text, an HTML credit link and downloads

Every tool is read-only (readOnlyHint). Invalid input returns isError with the valid options. No tool scores a person, takes answers or returns a screening result: explain_screening_test describes the test, nothing more.

Use

Local:

{ "mcpServers": { "dyscalculia": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "dyscalculia-mcp"] } } }

Claude Code: claude mcp add --scope user dyscalculia -- npx -y dyscalculia-mcp. Self-host the HTTP transport: npm run build && PORT=3000 npm run start:http (POST /mcp, stateless, /health), or build the Dockerfile (node:22-alpine, non-root, port 3000).

Honest limits

  • There is no global prevalence figure. No worldwide pooled meta-analysis of dyscalculia prevalence was found; the "worldwide" entry is a range across population studies. Studies use different criteria and ages, so figures are not directly comparable, and one English sample gave 1 to 6 percent depending on the cut-off.
  • The figures are published research estimates, not a diagnosis of any person. The server gives no advice about a learning difficulty and does not tell anyone whether they have dyscalculia.
  • The screening test is a screening of basic number skills. It has no norm sample, no percentiles and no published accuracy study; it does not diagnose dyscalculia and does not rule it out.
  • DOIs and PMIDs are exactly those the site prints. Where the site has none, none is given.

get_prevalence

Dyscalculia prevalence figures

Published dyscalculia prevalence figures with sample size, publication year, age, the reference key (see get_reference) and a calc flag (true when the site calculated the figure itself). Filter by study id, by age (entries whose stated age range includes it; entries with no stated age are never matched) or by a percent range (entries whose figure or range overlaps it). With no filter, returns all 10 entries. These are published research estimates, not a diagnosis of any person. There is no worldwide pooled meta-analysis of dyscalculia prevalence: the 'worldwide' entry is a range across population studies. Studies use different criteria and ages, so figures are not directly comparable.

Parametersagestudymax_pctmin_pct

list_studies

List the studies and sources behind the statistics

Lists every source the statistics page cites (peer-reviewed studies with DOI or PMID, plus official statistics and guidelines), with the topics each supports and, for population studies, the prevalence entries built from them. Filter by topic: prevalence, persistence, math-anxiety, interventions, by-country, sex-ratio, comorbidity, key-figures, family, official-counts, method. Use get_reference for one full citation.

Parameterstopic

get_reference

Get one full reference

Full citation for one reference key (for example shalev2000, grosstsur1996), with its DOI and PMID when the site has them, the link the site uses, and the topics that cite it. The site holds 93 references; keys are returned by get_prevalence and list_studies.

Parameterskeyrequired

explain_screening_test

Explain the free number-skills screening test

Describes the five screening games on dyscalculia.io: what each measures, how many items it has, what an item is and how items and games are scored in general terms, and the limits. Optionally returns the item sets (dot counts, number pairs, number-line targets, digit-sequence lengths). It describes the test only: it does not score anyone, take answers or return a result. The test is a screening of basic number skills, not a diagnosis.

Parametersgameinclude_items

list_chart_data

Charts and tables on the statistics page

Lists the chart and table datasets on the statistics page (id, title, topic, section, row count) with their download addresses: the CSV and JSON of the whole page, one SVG per chart, the screening-test JSON and the changelog JSON. Pass an id (for example chart-1, table-2) to get that dataset's rows with their values, notes and reference keys.

Parametersid

get_citation

How to cite and reuse the dyscalculia.io data

License (the compilation is CC BY 4.0; each figure belongs to its cited source), the citation text, an HTML credit link and the download addresses. To cite a single number, cite its study: use get_reference.

Takes no parameters.
