When to use it
Useful when you run several coding agents or harnesses at once and want to avoid duplicate work, route questions to yourself, or pass files and handoffs between them. Not needed for a single agent working alone.
Requirements
Runs as a local background service on the user's machine, installed via Homebrew on macOS or Linux (or Go / from source), with the service enabled and approved. Each harness needs the MCP configuration from the dibs mcp-config command or its plugin installed, then a restart. No account, database, environment variables or headers are declared.
Before you install
It runs a persistent background service and, on macOS, asks you to approve it. Agents can send mail, hand off work and transfer files through it, so review what is shared. Desktop notifications carry agent questions and answers. The README points to separate security and configuration documentation that should be read before use.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Dibs in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

See what all your agents are doing in one board. Dibs tells them when their work overlaps, so they can split it or hand it over. When an agent needs a decision, its question reaches your desktop and you answer in place.

When an agent needs you

Read the full message and answer from the desktop notification. Reopen it from Notification Center later. The board keeps the conversation while you are away.

When two agents collide

An agent declares the same issue as another; Dibs reports the overlap, and they can divide the work without blocking either agent.

Connect your agents

Print the MCP configuration and add it to your harness:
