Overview

AI-generated overview

Markproof watermarks and C2PA-signs AI-generated images and audio, and verifies whether a file carries a valid Markproof mark.

What you can do
  • Mark an AI-generated image (PNG, JPEG, WebP) or audio file (WAV, MP3) with an invisible watermark and signed C2PA manifest, writing the marked copy next to the original
  • Verify an image or audio file for a Markproof watermark and C2PA manifest, reporting signature validity and whether it matches a record in the account
  • Look up the record of a previously marked file by the asset_id returned when marking
When to use it
Useful when you produce AI-generated images or audio and need to label them as AI-generated for EU AI Act Article 50, or when you want to check a file's provenance before publishing or inspect a file of unknown origin.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process (npm package markproof-mcp, so Node.js is needed). Requires a Markproof account and the MARKPROOF_API_KEY environment variable, obtained from the Markproof dashboard; the free tier allows 250 calls a month.
Before you install
Requires a secret API key (MARKPROOF_API_KEY) that should be kept out of shared configs. Marking and verifying consume API quota (250 free calls a month; get_asset does not count), and marking writes a new file next to the original. Files and their metadata are sent to the Markproof service for signing and record matching.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Markproof in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Tools

3

mark_file

Mark an AI-generated file

Adds an invisible watermark and a signed C2PA manifest (Content Credentials) to an AI-generated image (PNG, JPEG, WebP) or audio file (WAV, MP3), marking it as AI-generated for EU AI Act Article 50. Writes the marked copy next to the original (images as PNG, audio as WAV) and returns its watermark code and public verification URL. Use this on every image or audio file you generate before handing it to a user. Counts as one API call.

verify_file

Check a file for AI marking

Checks an image or audio file for a Markproof watermark and a C2PA manifest, and reports whether its signature is valid and whether it matches a record in this Markproof account. Use it to confirm a file is marked before publishing, or to inspect a file of unknown origin. Counts as one API call.

get_asset

Look up a marked file

Fetches the record for a file this account marked, by the asset_id that mark_file returned. Doesn't count toward the quota.
