Overview

AI-generated overview

PressIt is a local MCP server that lets an assistant compress, resize and convert image files on your computer without uploads or API keys.

What you can do
  • Compress, optimize, resize, crop or convert a single image file and save it to a chosen output path
  • Batch-compress, resize or convert many images from a folder or a list of paths in one call
  • Apply defaults such as 70% scale at quality 70, or target web use with WebP output and a maximum width
  • Keep original files untouched while writing results to a separate output location
When to use it
Useful when a task needs images made smaller, lighter or web-ready: optimizing heavy images that slow a site, preparing photos for a website or app, converting to WebP, or resizing to a maximum width.
Requirements
Runs as a local process on the user's machine via npx (Node.js), installed with the pressit-mcp npm package. No API key, account or environment variables are declared. Desktop only.
Before you install
Writes new image files to disk at the output path or a "compressed" folder; originals are stated to be left unchanged, but check output locations before running on important folders.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open PressIt in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

compress_images

Compress images

Compress, optimize, resize or convert many image files on this computer in one call, from a folder or a list of paths. By default images are scaled to 70% at quality 70, keep their format, and are written to a "compressed" folder next to them. For a website, format "webp" with maxWidth (like 1600) usually works best: big images shrink to fit, small ones keep their size. Files that would not get smaller are copied as they are. No need to list, measure or check the files first: pass the folder as inputDir. Originals and existing files are never replaced unless overwrite is set. The result gives the total size before and after, and any image that failed.
