Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only connector to Plain-AyI, a plain-language guide to open-source AI projects, letting an assistant search, browse and explain them.

What you can do
  • Search open-source AI projects by what they do, optionally filtered by shelf, category or "no coding needed"
  • Read full details of one project: purpose, audience, coding needs, cost, privacy, rating, licence and source links
  • List all categories on both shelves with descriptions and project counts
  • Explain projects in everyday words, including cost and whether data stays on the device
When to use it
Useful when someone wants a plain-language recommendation of open-source AI tools or everyday software with AI or MCP support, for example a free offline transcription tool, and wants cost, privacy and first steps before installing anything.
Requirements
Remote HTTP endpoint at plain-ayi.com; no account or API key needed. Works in clients that support remote MCP connectors, such as Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot or Gemini CLI.
Before you install
Read-only and keeps no record of who asked, but summaries are AI-drafted from project documentation, so check the checkedByPerson flag. The guide does not host, review or endorse the listed software; install at your own discretion. Ratings reflect public activity, not a verdict.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Plain-AyI in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.AyodejiOO%2Fplain-ayi/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

What it is

Some of the most useful AI tools are open source, but they're scattered across GitHub and described in developer language. Plain-AyI gathers a growing, non-exhaustive list of them and explains each one in everyday words:

  • what it does and who it's for
  • whether you need to code
  • what it costs, including when a paid AI account is needed
  • whether your data stays on your device
  • simple first steps, with safety notes before you install anything

New projects are added every day. Ratings reflect public activity (stars, contributors, downloads, recent updates), not a verdict on which project matters most.

Use it from your AI assistant

Plain-AyI has a read-only MCP connector, so your AI assistant can search the guide for you, for example "find me a free tool that turns my voice recordings into text, without them leaving my laptop".

Connector address: https://plain-ayi.com/mcp. No account or API key is needed.

Claude (web, desktop and mobile)

Find Plain-AyI in Claude's connector directory and click Connect. Or add it yourself: Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it Plain-AyI, and paste https://plain-ayi.com/mcp.

Claude Code
bash
claude mcp add --transport http plain-ayi https://plain-ayi.com/mcp
Cursor

Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or to .cursor/mcp.json in a project:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "plain-ayi": { "url": "https://plain-ayi.com/mcp" }  }}
GitHub Copilot in VS Code

Add to .vscode/mcp.json in your project:

json
{  "servers": {    "plain-ayi": { "type": "http", "url": "https://plain-ayi.com/mcp" }  }}
Gemini CLI

Install it as an extension:

bash
gemini extensions install https://github.com/AyodejiOO/plain-ayi-connector

Or add to ~/.gemini/settings.json:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "plain-ayi": { "httpUrl": "https://plain-ayi.com/mcp" }  }}

search_projects

Search AI projects

Find open-source AI projects by what they do, e.g. 'run chat models offline' or 'transcribe audio'. Searches both shelves unless 'shelf' is given: 'ai' (AI tools) or 'ai-integrated' (everyday software that AI assistants can use, e.g. a notes app with an MCP server). Optionally narrow by category or by whether it can be used without writing code. Returns short summaries, best matches first.

get_project

Get one AI project

Full details of one project: what it does, who it's for, whether it needs coding, rating, numbers, license and source links.

list_categories

List categories

All categories on both shelves ('ai' and 'ai-integrated') with a short description, how many projects each has, and the slugs of its projects.

100% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
