Ultra-lightweight browser engine for AI agents. 33 MCP tools, 4 SDKs, cross-platform.

Overview

AI-generated overview

A lightweight headless browser engine that lets an assistant navigate URLs and extract page content such as markdown, links, and screenshots.

What you can do
B4n1Web is a self-contained headless browser engine exposed as an MCP server over stdio, offering 33 tools for agent use. It navigates URLs and extracts structured content including markdown, links, and screenshots, and supports three modes: Light (HTTP fetch plus HTML parsing), JS (script extraction), and Render (full Chromium with screenshots). It also provides domain filtering, safe browsing, and network interception for blocking resources or mocking responses.
When to use it
Use it when an assistant needs to fetch and read web pages, pull structured content from them, or capture screenshots as part of an automated workflow. It suits setups that want a small, dependency-free browser engine rather than a full browser stack.
Requirements
Runs locally as a stdio process; no authentication, environment variables, or headers are declared. Installable via npm, PyPI, or NuGet packages, or as a pre-compiled binary for Linux, macOS, and Windows. Desktop only; no web executable. Render mode uses full Chromium and needs roughly 100MB RAM.
Before you install
The server browses the web on the assistant's behalf, so pages it visits and content it retrieves leave the local machine. Network interception and domain filtering features can block or mock requests, which may change what a page returns. No credentials are requested by the manifest, but review any site-specific access before use.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open B4n1Web in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Capability parity

Every method each SDK exposes is tested (see coverage). Surface differs by design: Python additionally ships a full MCP client (b4n1web.mcp), so it covers the whole tool surface; JS/C#/Java/Ruby/PHP/Go wrap the CLI binary (core flows). Cells below are measured against each SDK's actual source (b4n1-web 0.16.0), not aspirational: explicit rounding — ✓ implemented · · not implemented · mcp available through the bundled MCP server.

Full parity = one MCP client per SDK (JS/CS/Java) — tracked as tasks; the Ruby/PHP/Go interaction gaps (click/type, device emulation, file transfer, cookies/frames) are their own parity tasks.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
