Overview

AI-generated overview

Local MCP server that lets an assistant inspect local JPEG/PNG/WebP images and crop, resize, convert or compress them to exact dimensions and byte limits.

What you can do
  • Inspect a local image: read oriented width/height, actual bytes, MIME type and transparency, optionally with a small JPEG preview for crop planning
  • Prepare an image: crop, resize, convert and compress one local file, keeping the full original when size or crop is omitted
  • Apply percent-based crop coordinates against the EXIF-oriented original, with fitting applied after extraction
  • Enforce an exact max_bytes limit that counts metadata, with a conflict policy that errors instead of silently reducing the requested dimensions
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to check a local image's real dimensions and size, or produce a version that fits a strict pixel or file-size requirement, such as upload limits or layout slots. It works on files on the machine running the server, not on images attached in a chat.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process installed from the npm package sprig-fit-mcp, so Node.js is needed. No authentication, environment variables or headers are declared. The assistant must be able to reference paths on the same filesystem as the server process, and an output directory is used for results.
Before you install
Paths refer to the server process's filesystem, so the assistant can read any local image path it is given; only point it at files you intend to share. Prepared images are written to the configured output directory and persist there, though originals are never overwritten. File resource references stay readable for the session, up to the most recent 256 results.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Sprig Fit Images in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Tools

2

inspect_image

Inspect image

Read a local static JPEG/PNG/WebP image. Return EXIF-oriented width/height, actual bytes, MIME type and transparency, without exposing source EXIF. Optionally attach a small JPEG preview for crop planning.

prepare_image

Prepare image

Crop, resize, convert and compress one local image. Keep the full original when size/crop are omitted. Percent crop coordinates refer to the EXIF-oriented original; fitting happens after extraction. Exact max_bytes includes metadata. Default conflict_policy=error never silently reduces requested dimensions. JPEG transparency/letterboxing requires an explicit background. Save a NEW local file and return its actual dimensions, bytes and file resource. No image uploads or external service calls.
