Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted MCP server for U.S. business-registry data: search companies, read their records and change history, and subscribe to change webhooks.

What you can do
  • Search and read companies: find businesses by name, state, entity type, status or formation date, and fetch one company's current record.
  • Review change history: list a company's events oldest to newest, or search events across states by type and date.
  • Check coverage: list registry sources with their latest verified dates.
  • Manage webhooks: create, list and delete subscriptions that POST signed notifications when matching companies change.
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs U.S. company formation, status, address, registered-agent or officer data, or wants to monitor new formations and changes across covered states. It is a paid hosted service, so it suits recurring research or monitoring rather than one-off lookups.
Requirements
Remote Streamable HTTP endpoint; no local package. A Recordwire API key is required as an Authorization bearer header, obtained from the provider's app site. A paid monthly plan is needed for data access; tool listing works without a key. Subscriptions need an HTTPS endpoint to receive webhooks.
Before you install
The API key is a secret sent in the Authorization header. Access is billed as flat monthly plans, so installing implies a paid subscription. Creating and deleting subscriptions changes state on the account, and subscriptions send company-change data to the HTTPS endpoint you register; the webhook signing secret is shown only once and must be saved.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Recordwire in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect Authorization token credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.BrianVia%2Frecordwire/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Recordwire MCP server

U.S. business-registry data and change events for agents. Search companies, read their history, and get told when they change: new formations, name changes, status changes (dissolved, revoked, reinstated), address, registered-agent, and officer changes. Data comes from official state sources: bulk files and open data where states publish them, and the state's own public business search where they do not.

Recordwire is a hosted service. This repository holds the server's public listing and docs, not its source code.

Connect

Claude Code:

sh
claude mcp add recordwire --transport http https://api.recordwirehq.com/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $RECORDWIRE_API_KEY"

Cursor, Claude Desktop, or any client that takes a JSON config:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "recordwire": {      "url": "https://api.recordwirehq.com/mcp",      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY" }    }  }}

initialize and tools/list work without a key, so you can see the tools before signing up.
