Overview

AI-generated overview

LessonFolk is an open-source AI course library taught conversationally by your AI chat, with progress saved through MCP tools.

What you can do
  • Fetch open-source AI courses and the tutor's instructions, grouped by theme from understanding AI to building with AI.
  • Have the assistant teach one short lesson at a time, explaining, asking questions and adapting to the learner's level.
  • Get a recommended learning path based on the learner's level and interests.
  • Save and track learning progress, which the website dashboard displays.
When to use it
Useful when someone wants to learn AI topics through guided conversation with their existing AI chat, or wants a structured course path with saved progress rather than ad-hoc explanations.
Requirements
A remote MCP endpoint at lessonfolk.com with OAuth sign-in required (GitHub or Google account). Alternatively self-host with Docker and connect the AI chat locally; no environment variables or headers are declared.
Before you install
The hosted option stores your learning progress tied to your GitHub or Google account, so account data is held by the service; the README points to a privacy document covering what is stored, export and deletion. Self-hosting keeps data local. Progress-saving tools write data to the service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open LessonFolk in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.CGSeb%2Flessonfolk/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

LessonFolk is a collection of open-source AI courses designed to be taught by an AI. Connect your AI chat (Claude Code, ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, Cursor…) to LessonFolk, say "let's start", and it guides you through lessons in a conversation: explaining, asking questions, adapting to your level, and saving your progress.

How it works

LessonFolk is a website and an MCP server (Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI apps to use tools). Your AI chat connects to it: it gets the courses and the tutor's instructions, and saves your progress there. The website shows your courses, your path and your progress.

The tutor asks about your level and interests, recommends a path of courses, and teaches one short lesson at a time. Courses are grouped by theme: Understanding AI, Using AI tools, Building with AI and AI and society. The full list, in the recommended order, is courses/en/index.yaml, or ask your tutor "what can I learn?".

Coming soon: Projects. Real projects to practise what the courses teach: a subject, a few milestones to reach, and your tutor as a coach who gives hints instead of the solution. Some will close a course, others will stand alone.

Quick start

Pick one of two ways:

Hosted (lessonfolk.com): sign in with GitHub or Google, open its Connect page and add LessonFolk to your AI chat (in Claude Code, a plugin does it for you). Your progress is saved with your account.

Self-hosted: private, on your computer, no data sent to us. With Docker running:

bash
git clone https://github.com/CGSeb/lessonfolk.gitcd lessonfolkdocker compose up -d --build

Open http://127.0.0.1:4321 to see the dashboard. Then start your AI chat in this folder:

  • Claude Code: run claude and approve the lessonfolk MCP server when asked.
  • Other apps: follow the dashboard's Connect page.

Then say:

Let's start learning AI.

The learner guide has the details.

Contribute

LessonFolk grows with its courses, and writing one needs no code. Open your AI agent in this folder and say "create a course about…": it interviews you, proposes an outline, writes the lessons with you and checks them. You are credited as the author on the dashboard.

  • Spotted a mistake in a lesson, or have a course idea? Open an issue.
  • Want to write or translate a course, or work on the code? Start with Contributing.
  • A question? Ask in Discussions.

Documentation

License

LessonFolk is developed by CG Seb.

  • Code (dashboard, tooling, tutor instructions): MIT
  • Course content (courses/): CC BY 4.0. You may share and adapt the courses, including commercially, as long as you give appropriate credit.

This server asks you to sign in, so SourceWeft could not read its tools without an account and has not indexed them. What a connected account sees can depend on that account and its permissions.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
