Remote MCP index that lets an assistant search, compare and recommend public MCP servers, then run their tools through one connection.
What you can do
Search the public MCP Index by job description, optionally filtered by host such as Cursor, Copilot or VS Code
Look up a single directory item by id, slug or exact name, and compare two to five items to see stored details and differing fields
Get recommendations of public MCP servers for a stated need, with the slug and tool to call
List the sections of the index
Run a tool on an indexed public MCP server and return its result through this connection
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to discover which MCP servers exist for a task, compare candidates, or reach a server's tools without configuring each one separately. It acts as a gateway, so it is a fit for exploration and one-off calls rather than a fixed set of tools.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no API key or account is declared. The README gives the endpoint URL and setup snippets for Cursor, Claude Code and Codex. Network access to the endpoint is required.
Before you install
Calls made with call_indexed_tool are forwarded to third-party public servers and their results come back through this connection, so data you send goes to those servers. The index is described as live and public, so results may change; verify a server before relying on it. No credentials are requested by this server itself.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.Carmel-Labs-Inc%2Fmcp-index/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Search the full public MCP Index. The tools on this connection are only the Index, not the catalog. Pass the job as query. Optional host is cursor, copilot, or vscode. Each match includes a slug and tool names. Run one with call_indexed_tool.

Score
100%
100% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
