Generate UK-law contracts: NDA, service, freelance, recruiter terms of business, IR35.

Overview

AI-generated overview

Generates UK-law business contracts such as NDAs, service and freelance agreements through the LexPact API, using three tools.

What you can do
  • List available UK contract templates
  • Generate a contract from a chosen template
  • Retrieve a previously generated contract
  • All validation and generation run on the LexPact service, with errors passed back to the assistant
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to draft standard UK-law business paperwork — NDAs, service agreements, freelance contracts, recruiter terms of business or IR35-related documents — without leaving the chat.
Requirements
Runs locally as an npm package (lexpact-mcp-server) started with Node.js, configured in the MCP client. Requires a LexPact API key supplied in the LEXPACT_API_KEY environment variable, obtained from the LexPact dashboard. Network access to the LexPact API; an optional LEXPACT_API_BASE_URL variable can override the endpoint.
Before you install
The LEXPACT_API_KEY secret is stored in the client configuration and sent to the LexPact API. Contract generation happens on LexPact's servers, so the details you provide are sent to that third party. Generated documents are drafts, not legal advice; review them before use. The README's config example uses a local file path rather than the published package.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open LexPact UK Contracts in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

LexPact MCP Server

Exposes the LexPact contract generation API to Claude Desktop (or any MCP client) as three tools: list_contract_templates, generate_contract, get_contract. Thin proxy only — all validation and generation happens server-side at https://lexpact.co.uk/api/v1, so structured, LLM-actionable error messages reach Claude unchanged.

Setup

  1. Get an API key at lexpact.co.uk/dashboard/api-keys.
  2. Install dependencies:
    bash
    cd mcp-servernpm install
  3. Add to your Claude Desktop config (claude_desktop_config.json — Settings → Developer → Edit Config):
    json
    {  "mcpServers": {    "lexpact": {      "command": "node",      "args": ["/absolute/path/to/mcp-server/index.js"],      "env": {        "LEXPACT_API_KEY": "lp_live_your_key_here"      }    }  }}
  4. Restart Claude Desktop. Ask it to draft a contract — it will call list_contract_templates and generate_contract as needed.

Environment variables

VarRequiredPurpose
LEXPACT_API_KEYYesYour LexPact API key.
LEXPACT_API_BASE_URLNoOverride the API base URL (defaults to https://lexpact.co.uk/api/v1) — useful for testing against a local dev server.

Manual test

bash
LEXPACT_API_KEY=lp_live_... node index.js

Then connect any MCP client (e.g. the MCP Inspector: npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector node index.js).

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
